JAC arrival time

Hello. My husband and I are planning a trip to Yellowstone/Grand Teton in late June (our son will be 13 months old then and we are leaving him home with my parents). Our flight (on hold) arrives in Jackson at 4:15 p.m. Will this give us enough time to drive to Lake Yellowstone Hotel? I know that the sunset is around 9 p.m. Currently we are staying there first, then Old Faithful Inn, and then Jackson Lake Lodge. I can't switch around the hotels right now because of lack of availability. Thanks!

Not too familiar with the area at that time, but a quick check on google maps turned up about an hour and 40 minute drive. So even giving yourself an hour once you're off the plane to get baggage, car, etc, you should be fine.

Shouldn't be a problem. JAC is very small airport and easy to deal with. Might have some traffic on main highway, but nothing particularly bad.

Shouldn't be a problem. We arrived at JAC after 6PM in late August and drove to Canyon (which is beyond Lake Yellowstone) stopping a few times for animal sightings along the way and got there just after dusk. I was worried about driving in the dark, but after getting back to Canyon after dark quite a few times since then, it isn't as bad as you think. There is still pretty much traffic (especially at that time of the year) so even if the flight is delayed some, you should be fine.

I would advise anyone who arrives at JAC in the evening to stay around there the first night. For one thing, you miss the scenery on the way to Yellowstone and I imagine it could be a long trip in the dark along those roads.

JAC is very small. You walk off the plane into the airport. The only thing that takes some time is if you have to wait in line for the car rental. I don't think it's ever taken us a half hour to get our car, bags and be on our way.

Thank you for all of your responses. We are switching planes in Denver, but I will be optimistic that we won't be too delayed and we should be able to make it before dark. Thanks!

Your drive will likely be closer to 2.5 hours from the airport. Its a pretty drive so you should enjoy it. Just be careful and aware of wildlife in the road.

I'm not wure why you're so concerned. If you get there a little late, is that a big problem? Am I missing something?

If you don't like your reservations. call Xanterra as you get a little closer and maybe you'll catch a cancellation somewhere.
