We have 10 days- August 8-18. Rocky Mountain is definitely a priority, but given the amount of time Could anyone suggest an itinerary that would bring us from the mountains through some great towns and around the varied parts of the state and back to Denver. I have no idea what the drive times are. I have two kids ages 14 and 16 who appreciate spectacular scenery and shopping and cool little hip towns.
Itinerary suggestions please

Hi
Colorado Springs is nice. There is the Air Force Academy and Pikes Peak. It has been many years since I have been there but both desitnations are great. You may want to check out the Air Force Academy website. I want years before 9/11. The rules may be different now. I believe Colorado Springs is less than an hour from Denver.
If you are with driving long distances or are open to a short flight you may also want to check out Durango and Mesa Verde. We flew from Denver. I'm not sure how long it would take to drive. Durango is an old west town with many outdoor activities the kids would like including hiking, biking and white water rafting. There is a train from there that goes to Silverton, an old mining town. Mesa Verde is a National Park everyone should see sometime in their life. There are cliff dwellings from an ancient Indian civilization there. Just amazing.
Enjoy
My 19 y.o. son and I just visited Colorado. We flew into Denver, then drove to Colorado Springs for 3 days/2 nights; Estes Park (RMNP) for 3 days/3 nights and then Denver for 2 days. In Colorado Springs, I definitely recommend staying in Manitou Springs because it is close to everything. You can hit the Air Force Academy on the way into Colorado Springs. In CS/MS, there is the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Seven Falls, Garden of the Gods, Cogs Rail to top of Pike's Peak, Cave of the Winds, Manitou Cliff Dwellings and the Olympic Training Center. We took the Peak to Peak Highway to RMNP. It is a very scenic drive and you hit a few interesting towns on this "road" but it is a long drive. In Estes Park, outside of hiking and a few shops, there is not much to do. But if you like hiking you will love RMNP. The Stanley Hotel (from "The Shining") is in Estes Park but my son and I never went there. Boulder looks like a pretty hip town but we only drove through it. It might be worth spending a day there. As I was researching our trip, I found a lot of good advice but we only had 7 days so we had to limit ourselves. Enjoy your trip!
