ISO Von Trapp Resort type experience, cheaper and closer to Philadelphia !?!
Does it exist?
A beautiful resort, great scenery, slow-pace, decent food options, all within 5-6 hours drive of Philadelphia?
Too far to go to Stowe, Vermont (unfortunately), plus we don't have that kind of budget (though we can dream).
We are two thirty-something parents with a 10 month old daughter. We are looking for serenity more than theme-park excitement.
Any thoughts?
Maybe a quiet B&B in Western Mass that is child-friendly? Upstate New York?
Affordable? (closer to $100 per night - would love less but know that is doubtful)
Looking for last week in August. No wiggle room on the dates.
Thanks for any/all advice.

Timing is everything. $100 per night will barely get you a decent B&B in the Northeast in the off season. Western Mass (Berkshires )is in super high season for the summer (Tanglewood) through October (Fall Foliage). There MAY be some deals to be had in November and early December, but even then your budget seems low.

Probably a bit more than you were looking to pay, but you could check out the Mohonk Mountain House in the lower Catskills (http://www.mohonk.com/) - probably about 3 1/2 hours from Philly.... Or a little closer, Skytop in the Poconos (http://www.skytop.com/).
Both are beautiful old resorts, with lots of kids activities in the summer, and excellent food.

Anyone have experience with the Country Inn @ Jiminy Peak? It fits our price range...now how to tell if it will provide the bucolic mountain setting we are shooting for...quiet walks with our infant and decent food options.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!
