In looking at the MapEasy Guidemap there appears to be a lot of restuarants in this area! Can anyone help me weed through all the mentions with a shout out for a favorite? Other than a steakhouse anything from soup to seafood is of interest to me. Via Matta sounds intriguing--anyone been there?

Trip Ideas
Via Matta is very good.
L'Espalier is probably the best restaurant in the city, amazing food and service, high end. Sorrelina is also very good, on the higher end.
Mid range I like Sel de la Terre and Sonsie. I've always had good meals at Atlantic Fish. Haru in the Prudential Center has gotten good reviews, I've not been there though.
Copley Square is also not too far from the South End where there's tons of amazing restaurants.
I like Via Matta a lot, I've been a few times. though I find I like their pasta and antipasto better than their entrees. We've done their tasting menu and that was a lot of fun.
I've also had a good meal at La Voile on Newbury Street.
Thank you, both! There are so many places I'd like to try that I may just eat my way through Boston.
I notice several Pho restaurants near Chinatown--any favorites there?
Back Bay/Copley has a few good restaurants (many of them high-end) and a bunch of overpriced clunkers, especially on Newbury Street. You've gotten good advice above -- will second L'Espalier (arguably the best restaurant in Boston), Via Matta, Sorellina, and Sel De La Terre. Have heard good things about La Voile but have not been, and was not impressed with Haru. Will also suggest The Oak Room or Grill 23 for upscale steak, Clio as a high end alternative to L'Espalier, Parish Cafe for creative sandwiches, Tapeo for tapas, and Trident Bookstore and Cafe for breakfast/lunch.
The South End is very close by this area and has a number of excellent options.
It's tough to go wrong with most of the Vietnamese spots in Chinatown -- Xinh Xinh, Pho Pasteur, and Pho Hoa are all very good, with the first arguably the best of the three.
bachslunch, thank you for the additional input. I feel armed and ready.
Another yes vote for Via Matta, La Voile, Sonsie, Sel de le Terre, Clio. Also Bouchee on Newbury Street and Vlora on Boylston. I have been to all of these restaurants and can recommend each of them.
