Is two hours in Chicago enough?

Okay,I am from Austalia.I have booked a cheap flight from Washington DC to Las Vegas. There is a stopover at MDW.In theory I arrive at7:10am on a Saturday morning and leave at 10:30 am.Have I time to get the Orange Line downtown and back and would it be worth the trouble?Would I see anything? This maybe the only time I get anywhere near Chicago.

No. Enjoy the scenes of Midway.

You must be on ATA.If by any chance your flight from MDW to LAS is cancelled then you could get the 6pm departure. Then you could see the sights for sure. But if the connection in the morning is operating, chill at MDW.

You could probably get downtown and back but, realistically, it would not be worth it. Given security and boarding times you've only got a couple of hours to get downtown, take a couple of deep breaths and head back to Midway.

Hope you can find a way to return and do a proper visit to Chicago. It's a great city.

Agree totally with JMHO - would not even contemplate it with extra security etc. I do not know how long you are in Vegas for, but I would try to stay a couple of days in Chicago. I thought it was a much nicer city than I expected. Great shopping city, partly from choice but also for total convenience - focus on North Michigan Av. Amazing aquarium which makes Sydney's look second rate. From what I have read of Las Vegas on this site, there would be far more to see in Chicago - but maybe you just want to focus on the casinos or desert? I'm originally from Oz, so coming from possibly similar perspective.

I totally agree with Nick. I would stay in Chicago over Las Vegas. However, if that is not an option or something you want to consider the answer to your question is no.

You would need 30 minutes or more each way to take the train downtown, since Saturday morning is a slow time. And after getting downtown at 8 a.m. on a weekend, you would find practically nothing open. You could stroll along Dearborn Street for half an hour, seeing some of the public sculpture and notable building exteriors.

Yikes! Thirty minutes? St. Patricks weekend (Sunday night) it took me an hour and a half on the EL just to make it back to the airport. We passed tons of cars just sitting in traffic. I wouldn't chance it. Get a good book.

If I had to choose an airport to get stuck in for several hours or the better part of a day. Midway would be close to the bottom of the list. Don't take a chance on missing your connecting flight - there just isn't enough time in your schedule to be assured of making it back in time. I agree with others that Chicago is realy, truly worth a real visit - a full day if you can do it but 2 - 3 days does it much more justice.

At least 30 minutes...plus the time to walk to the el station from the airport. Plus the time waiting for the train to depart--since it's the end of a line. Chicago is a fantastic city and even a full day in the city is not enough time to enjoy it.
