Is this a good part of Santa Monica?

I'm thinking of renting a beach house with my two kids (DH not coming) in the Ocean Park area of Santa Monica (near Main Street and Ocean Park Blvd.) Is this a good area and one where I'd feel comfortable on my own? Thanks so much!

Right on Ocean Park Blvd are a lot of apartments (used to live in one at 6th & OP). But if it's a house it should be just fine. Assuming they are giving you an accurate location, hopefully they gave you an address?

Should be fine. (I used to live a few blocks away...mlgb, we might have been neighbors!)

Thanks everyone for your kind responses. I'm still making some final decisions. Had a friend drive by and he said the actual rental didn't look so hot so I'm second guessing. Meetings are in Studio City and Beverly Hills. Ideally wanted to stay somewhere central so it would be easy to get around to these places. Now I'm not so sure of what to do and if another location might be better.

Westwood might be a better choice if you want to be close to your meetings, and it's still not too far away from the beach.

Is air conditioning a must in LA during the summer? I live in GA and I know it is...just wondering if LA is the same as many of the rentals I'm seeing don't have it.

If you're in the beach communities, probably not. I live in Long Beach and there are maybe 5-10 days a year when I wish I had a/c.
