Is there Ragweed in Arizona and Utah?

I will be travelling to Utah and Arizona in mid to late October. I have a bad allergy to ragweed pollen , I'm hoping it is too dry for ragweed to grow, and that I don't need to bring medication with me. Does anyone know?

It depends on exactly where, but it looks like Utah is presently the ragweed capital of the US

You might check that map again in October. I know here in Southern California the ragweed season is a bit earlier than that.

I'm also allergic to ragweed and I became aware fairly early in life, based on newspaper reports, that the ragweed season (in Chicago) ended with the first frost in the fall. I found this to be true and as a result looked forward eagerly to that date, which varied some from year to year, but was usually around the first week of october.

Here's a link to the Farmers Almanac list of frost dates for selected cities in the various states. Coupled with the map that migb referenced should enable you to make a good guess about the ragweed levels where you are going.

Definitely ragweed in Utah. The wind must be blowing some of it up today, my nose has begun to run. I used to love the autumn, cool night winds, turning leaves.
That was until I started getting allergies. Now I really can't wait till the weather turns cold and kills it all.
Bring your meds and keep the windows closed all the time.

In southern and central Arizona, I can't recall that ragweed was a problem, but in the mountains it might be. Bring your meds, better safe than sorry!

This year in Utah has been KILLER for allergies. I think the spring was so late that everything just bloomed at once. Plus it was so wet and everything grew so much,,, I have never really had allergies. I have been on daily Claritin since May and have not been able to open my windows all summer. Bring meds!!
