Thank you for any suggestions you have. I have done research looking to take someone out for for a special breakfast who needs gluten free when I will be in the city this weekend. I was particularly looking for near central park.
From the research I have done many restaurants advertise gluten free and when I call them, they say they can serve any meal without the bread. Now how special is that? This is a birthday breakfast so I would love to find a place that might have gluten free pancakes, waffles or maybe even muffins along with eggs.
Is there a great gluten free breakfast in NYC?

Red rocks rock!

Google is your friend. There are tons of listings.
Ironically, there is a terrific gluten free in Paris thread on here, but no NY!
Although far from Central Park, Peter's Diner on 1st Ave between 83rd and 84th street serves "normal" gluten-free breakfast. GF pancakes, bread, etc. Also you might want to check out Friedman's in Chelsea Market. I am pretty sure they have gluten-free breakfast.
Here is a map of gluten-free restaurants, markets, and more in New York City: http://g.co/maps/eqb3q
Thank you GFGlobetrotter for the ideas. Ackislander; I have done a lot of googling and unfortunately lots of restaurants promote they are gluten free when but to them that means no bread or rolls.
I wish I could offer you a suggestion for a gluten-free restaurant, but I usually just pick up a yogurt when I'm in NYC because it's just easier to deal with. that said, I have two suggestions for you that might help.
1. Call Tu-Lu's Bakery. Even though they are located on the Lower East Side, they may sell their muffins to a restaurant in NYC where you might be able to go with your friend.
2. Check out the website g-free nyc, they are located on the UWS, maybe they have a suggestion for a breakfast restaurant.
I would stay away from Sarabeth's just because it is so depressing to be around all their great bread products and not be able to eat any.
Bloom's Deli is the only place I know of for gluten free breakfast. It's certainly not a fancy place but they do have gluten free pancakes and french toast. http://www.menupages.com/restaurants/blooms-delicatessen/menu
I think picking breakfast as the meal makes this is difficult task. Here's a blog that talks about Blooms and some other classic gf places. http://glutenfreetraveller.com/gluten-free-usa/gluten-free-in-nyc/
Oh, I forgot, The New York Palace Hotel near St. Patrick's Cathedral has gluten-free bread or English muffins available for breakfast.
