Is mid-October a good time to go to Glacier National Park?

My husband and I celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary Oct 11 and we were thinking of going to Glacier National Park. But it looks like it may be too late in the year? Has anyone gone that late?We could go the last 2 weeks in Sept instead but wanted to be on vacation for our actual anniversary.

Thanks for any advice

From Wikipedia.

[Logan Pass] is closed during the winter due to avalanche hazards and the virtual impossibility of keeping the Going-to-the-Sun Road open, yet is generally open from the end of May until mid October.

You might be lucky and be able to drive over the pass. But I would not count on it at that late date.

One possible problem: according to
http://www.glaciernationalpark.name/..._sun_road.html
"Going-to-the-Sun Road is open from mid-June through mid-October"
"Due to road maintenance begun in September, parts of the road will be closed."

Most of the buildings are shut down. Going to the Sun is shut down. There aren't any concessionaires open, either. My husband and I went up in early October, this year, and it was pretty quiet in the park. It's also really beautiful, too, because the tamaracks are turning yellow.

My DW and I were there for our 30th (2005) in early November. You can drive up to the head of Lake McDonald but all the facilities are closed. We did see an elk in the park. We had a rental car that was delivered to us at the nice golf resort just north of Columbia Falls.
We were allowed to leave the car at the Amtrak station in Whitefish since we were traveling by train.
We plan to return someday in a warmer month so we can drive the Going to the Sun road.
This past November we went to Arches. Nov. 2009 Yosemite.
