Planning the details of our trip: Sedona, GC, Page, Bryce, Zion, LV. I've already booked 1 night in Bryce and two nights in Zion, but have just discovered Kanab and was wondering is it possible to just stay there and drive to Bryce and Zion?
Is it possible to just stay in Kanab and do day trips to Bryce and Zion?

You could, but I would not.
You can, but I would highly recommend staying in the parks and cut back on all the driving that would be involves. In Zion you are IN the canyon and it's well worth staying there. Bryce you're are just steps to the rim and easier to see sunsets and sunrises.

I totally agree with utahtea and MichelleY. If you could not get lodging in the parks and felt the need to unpack/repack (I don't) at every hotel along the way then it would be possible, but you would spend way too much time in the car rather than in the parks.
Add me to the above.
I prefer to stay in one place for at least 2 nights.
However, that gets trumped by staying in the park instead of spending the time driving.
For sure stay inpark if you can or right outside if you can't get lodging inside.
thanks. After reading the posts here and other places, I think I'll just keep my reservations inside the parks. I was trying to find a way to fit in volunteering at the Best Friends animal sanctuary in Kanab. I know my kids would love it. Anyone ever been there??
I've been to Best Friends to volunteer. Check out their website - you will have to commit to a date/time and attend a volunteer session before being allowed to go out and do anything with the animals. At least that's the way they were doing it when we went 5 years ago. We got a tour in late am, then volunteered that afternoon for several hours.
Definitely keep your in park lodging and just go to Kanab for a day.
YES!! and YES!! Kanab is so close and central to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Bryce, Zion, Lake Powell, Grand Staircase, Coral Pink Sand Dunes, Slot Canyons, etc. It is the best place to unpack once and avoid having to pack up, check-in to another hotel and then unpack, re-pack again. What a huge was of energy and time, particularly while on vacation.
Kanab is such a quaint and cool town.
Kanab is a neat little town, but I wouldn't base myself there to visit Bryce and Zion.

Kanab to Bryce Canyon: 1 hour 38 minutes
Kanab to Zion National Park: 56 minutes
I would much rather avoid a 2 or 3+ hour roundtrip drive every day by spending a few minutes to pack/unpack while on vacation. I think most people would do the same.
It can take much longer to go between Kanab and Zion than you think. The road is slow and windy, and there is usually a long wait to go through the one-way tunnel.
Our favorite times to hike in both Bryce and Zion are in the early mornings and in the evenings. If you stay in Kanab, you will miss these wonderful times in the parks when you have an opportunity to see all kinds of wildlife.
Who unpacks on a one night stay?
I wouldn't unpack on a two night stay.
Inpark any day of the week!!!
I'd like to see you get to Bryce Point in time to see a spectacular sunrise driving from Kanab.
Go to www.travelwalks.com
to see the Bryce Point sunrise.
I never unpack for less than a week.
