Is Fox Rent A Car any good?

Someone on the board suggested I rent with fox car rental because it is cheaper when I checked on their site. I haven't booked yet.

I wanted to ask you guys out there are they any good. I googled it. And there was 2 good reviews and lots of bad ones out there.

They're fine - I've rented from them in LA and San Diego. My only problem is their "compact" cars are mostly PT Cruisers, which I happen not to like.

Never heard of them, and I rent cars all the time. My personal favorite this last year has been Dollar -- cheapest I've found; but once you check in, they try and get you to buy a zillion add ons -- you learn to say "no thanks" pretty fast.

Used Fox in San Diego and had no problems at all. We had never heard of them either until that trip, understood they had been in San Diego and were the cheapest so we tried them, and will use them again on our next visit.

I wonder where all these bad reviews came from. People complaining that their charges were much more than what they were quoted.

So, booking on line with them should be fine?

The only problem I have heard about Fox is that the cars turn only to the right.

I've used Fox in several places.

Our absolute WORST rental car experience ever was w/ Fox in San Francisco. Never again.
Staff weere surly, would not get up from teh desk where they had their feet up on, left us standing in the gargare in plain site of the car type we reserved and stated those are reserved for someone else.
Car was filthy sticky, dropped the rental contract right in some sort of gooey mess on the dash and they never even said sorry when THEY had to use a crowbar to get it off the dash...had an unbelievable amount of miles on it and it rattled so much so we had to drive it back around the lot and return for a new one. I don't complain but this time I did: never got a response at all.

I've use them in Seattle and they were just fine altho located offsite.

I have used them also in Orange County. I go there to visit my elderly mother, so I have plenty of stress. Once, on the shuttle from Fox to the airport, the traffic made the trip close to 40 minutes, and I vowed, never again.

Then, the price for a 4 day weekend was a quarter the price of on-site agencies, so I decided to go with Fox again. No traffic delay.

By the way, I locked my keys in the car at a gas station next door, and called Fox with my cell phone to see if they had extra keys. Shockingly, they said they had no extra keys. I can hardly believe that's the case.

Luckily, there were two guys almost sleeping in a plumbing truck, and I asked them if they could open the car, which they could. Yeah! I gave them $20, and made my plane. Whew!

In general, like non-stop flights, I prefer on-site rental agencies, but, given substantial savings, I'll go with Fox.

Not sure where the OP is picking up her car, but all car rental agencies in San Diego are off-site. My guess is that's true at LAX, too.

Yes, there is considerable savings with Fox Rent a Car. I'm just a tad hesitant from the bad reviews. I haven't made a final decision yet.

Just got back from a trip to California and we rented from Fox San Francisco. Had a terrible experience. I would never use them again! I'm going to write a post about it.

This company has the worst customer service. I tried to contact at least 6 times over the course of a few months regarding being over-charged for something. I only received 1 response months after my first few inquiries that did not address the issue, but asked me to call them again to restate the problem- if I still wanted to pursue it. This is AFTER I had taken the time to explain in great detail (including customer numbers, confirmation codes, dates, etc.). Also "if I want to pursue it"? Really? Would you not WANT to make sure your customers are fully satisfied? Not Fox! Despite the frustration I had with their lack of attention to detail regarding even attempting to read my initial documentation- I called again to relay the specifics of the over-charge. I have yet to receive a response regarding my situation. Their version of customer service is pathetic and I am so disgusted with their lack of respect- I will GLADLY pay twice the amount to any other company just so I never have to deal with these awful people again. Yes, they may offer a lower price, but I personally would gladly pay someone more just to be treated with dignity, respect and actually feel like a valued customer.

I had two problems with Fox. First at Las Vegas I had a reservation for an economy car and got there mid-afternoon and they had rented out the last 1. They were nice enough to rent me a Jeep CJ at the same price. The driving felt strange on I15 but I thought it was just the short wheelbase. When I got to Barstow, I checked the tire pressures and found 2 tires that were under 25psi.
The next time I rented from Fox they had the car at SLC. The rental agreement said the tank was full. It was barely above half. The tire pressure indicator came on. I drove back to the lot and they found that one of the tires was at 90psi.
The other tires were OK but the pressure indicator stayed on.
I checked the tire pressures after 500 miles but they were OK.
I now use Priceline and bid $1 less than Fox's price. To save $2 per day Fox does not seem to be worth it.

I havent considered them in years & never thought Fox would last this long. They gave me the impression they were a flybynight carbon paper and rubberband type outfit runing out cheap strip mall locations. Do they now at least have proper maintenance facilities for their cars?

You get what you (don't) pay for, apparently.

I've used them in San Diego where customer service was fine, but the only model of compact car available was a car I don't like, and the A/C didn't work.

<They were fine in Phoenix.>

I like the car rental set in Phoenix--the same bus to all auto rental companies.

I've never used Fox, but in Phoenix I would feel comfortable using them if doing so would save me big buck. Otherwise, I'd prefer to use a company I know I can trust--such as Enterprise.
