My husband and I are planning a trip in the end of April to Phoenix, Sedona, and Grand Canyon. Two days golfing in Phoenix/Scottsdale, two days golfing in Sedona, and one sunset and one sunrise in the south rim of the grand canyon. To split up the golfing and sight seeing, we thought we'd stop in Flagstaff after Phoenix and before the canyon, then end the trip in sedona. Our question is, is Flagstaff worth an evening and morning. Also, opinions on golf and hotels and resturants in all cities would be greatly appreciated.

we stay at the Enchantment Resort-in a canyon outside of Sedona-in the heart of redrock country.
The main dining room there is very pretty & they
have an outstanding chef.
This may be unfair to Flagstaff but we drove up there while in Sedona and found it unredeeming.The college campus didn't look like much either.It seemed like a 2 hour town.!

We went to Flaggstaff 3 yrs ago and had a great time! We stayed for one weekend. We stayed at the Little America Hotel. It was nice and lots of walking trails thru the woods on the property. We had some beer at a great microbrewery in the historic part of town, went to the observatory at nite, and ate a wonderful dinner at French restaurant in a house close to the university. This town was a great central location to see all the historic and cultural sites in the area.

Yes. If you have any interest in Astronomy, you will want to take this opportunity to visit the Lowell Observatory. Here you will find the science, history, and photos of our solar system. At night the public can view the planets and stars from a telecope about three stories high. A very unique experience.

I agree with Lisa 100%25. Flagstaff is a beautiful city, lots of trees, and the Little America Hotel is a gem. Be sure to read their brochure on how it got started.

We spent 5 days in Flagstaff last Sept. and had a great time. If you stop there, try Black Bart's.
It's an old fashioned steak house. Great food and the wait staff provide the entertainment with song and dance.

Flagstaff is so beautiful, after a visit, I wanted to move there. Still might do so.

Re: Flagstaff: After visiting Scottsdale and especially beautiful Sedona, Flagstaff is a big disappointment. Waste no morre than a few hours here. Flagstaff is only about a 30 min drive up the mountain from Sedona, so your better off staying in Sedona another night before heading to the Grand Canyon. Or you might try a night in the town of Williams??

As a golf nut myself, trust me, play lots and lots of golf in Phoenix, play as much golf in Sedona as you can, play through Flagstaff, and admire the views at the Grand Canyon. While the carry over the Grand Canyon might be a challenge it can't even be done by Tiger Woods! There is virtually no golf there.

Flagstaff is a delightful town. Go to the observatory, Ski? El NIno has blessed Flagstaff with lots of snow, visit the Reardon mansion, eat at Buster's, and wander the historic, charming downtown. You'll love it!

Unlike the others who responded, we live in this area. Eight miles east of Flagstaff is Walnut Canyon National Monument. Hundreds of years ago, the Southern Sinagua Indians built their "condos" into the sides of a narrow canyon by building up the fronts of caves. They still look almost the way they looked when they were abandoned around 1400.
North of Flagstaff about 15 miles on Hwy. 180 you turn east onto Hart Prairie Road, into a marvel of aspens and pines. This road, after awhile, reconnects with Hwy 180. If you are going to the Grand Canyon, why not come in "through the back door" by driving north on Hwy 89 to the Indian trading post at Cameron, then west on 64, see the canyon of the Little Colorado River, then in through Grand Canyon National Park's east entrance.
