I am looking for suggestions on where to stay in St Louis. We have one day and want to visit the arch, and city museum. Has anyone stayed at the Drury Inn at the Arch - is it safe to wander around at night, is there public transportation close by, OK to leave your car in the parking lot? I would like something mid priced with complimentary breakfast and a place to park a car.

It's been several years ago already, but we stayed at the Hampton Inn near the Arch. Parking was ok (garage), w/ breakfast. However, after dark the area was a bit weird. Lots of people just hanging out under the highway. They didn't hit me up for money, so I don't know what they were doing there.

We stayed at the Drury Inn several years ago. We liked it, mostly because it's so close to the arch and the baseball stadium.

It's in an historic building, and we found the service to be very good, as well as the complimentary breakfast and cocktail hours.

I think you will be as safe there as any downtown after dark. Just be smart.

What perfect timing! We just got home today from St. Louis where we stayed at the Drury Inn at the Arch. We went with another couple to go to two ball games (got rained out on one) and highly recommend the Drury for both the quality and the location. The Drury line is always our first choice, but they don't have a lot of locations.

If there is a baseball game going on, there are tons of people everywhere on the streets. We never saw any homeless, panhandlers or anyone who made us feel uneasy--they just weren't there. It's just one block to Ballpark Village, with bars, restaurants, yogurt shop, etc. and there are always people there.

The Drury offers a full hot breakfast (free) and will give you a ticket for three free drinks each night you are there (beer, wine or mixed). They also have hot foods available at night, again free. We were too tired to go out so had their free meals two nights (hot dogs, taco chips, a pasta dish, baked potatoes, salad). The third night we ate at Angelo's, an Italian restaurant attached to the hotel that was very good. There is alo a high-dollar steakhouse attached (Carmine's).

We had been to the Arch in the past, so this time we went just across the street to the Old Courthouse (where the Dred Scott case was first tried) and then took the free trolley from Ballpark Village to the Anheuser Busch brewery for a one-hour tour. There are a lot of things to do within walking distance of the hotel.

Parking is in an underground garage for an additional $16 a day.
