Since no one replied from down in your area, I'll give you a pub in the Shenandoh Valley in case you feel like taking a drive up this way. Just over an hour from GMU.
It is The Irish Isle, 7843 Main Street (route 11) in Middletown. (5400 868-9877 Take I-66 to I-81 north and get off at the next exit. Turn left at the top of the ramp, go a block or two and turn left on route 11. The restaurant is on the right. The food is excellent including their crabcakes. They also have hard cider. You can dine on the main level or downstairs in the pub. We often take our out of town visitors there.
Afterwards you could continue south on 11 and visit the Belle Grove Plantation and Cedar Creek Battlefield. Continuing south would take you to I-81 for the connection to I-66

My hands down favorite would have to be The Old Brogue which is in Great Falls and requires a car to get there.

If you're in the Dulles area, try O'Faolains.

If you're in DC proper, try Ireland's Four Provinces.

There's a Fado's in DC as well, but that's a chain.

I had good fish and chips at Ireland's Four Provinces in Falls Church, but it was two years ago so I can't vouch for the menu now. http://www.irishusa.com/4ps/
Sine in Pentagon Row also has fish and chips, corned beef and cabbage, and shepherd's pie. Haven't been there for more than a beer myself but the menu looks good. http://www.sineirishpub.com/cms_arli...nu_regular.php
