Ira: Question about Madison's Christmas Tour of Homes

Have you ever done this tour and is it worth the drive up from Griffin? My mother is interested, and possibly some other older ladies. I will be the chauffeur. Do you recommend this as an outing and are the homes really beautiful--and not tackily decorated for the holidays?

I have been several times but not in the last year or two...I definitely think it is worth the drive in from Griffin - you're not talking about more than 2 hours? And I find driving thru your part of Ga to be restful, anyway - I cut thru on Hwy 16 and 44 alot to bypass Atlanta - The homes that were on the tours the years I went were very tastefully done - quite lovely - some in period style and some quite modern. The hosts at each home were informative about the home and Madison in general. Made for a pleasant day's outing! There are also several shops/restaurants on the downtown square for lunch and window shopping. Have fun!

Thanks, Ausc--it's nice to have an unbiased opinion, because after years of trooping through showhouses and Christmas tours you want to pick and choose them more carefully.

k, I've gone several years (and have extended family whose home has been on the tour several times) and the homes have always been lovely and the decorations have never been tacky. There are different homes on the evening and day tours - I've enjoyed them all. If you are traveling with older ladies, I'd do the day tour.

I'd be there if I didn't have to be in Charleston that Sunday!

Covington is doing their tour on Dec. 7th and those homes are lovely as well (and a bit closer to you).
