New York, New York...my kind of town

Not really
I assume you'll take Avenue of the Saints... Hwy 27. I believe that's divided four lane, at least for the entire Iowa portion. South of Iowa City is pretty much smaller towns and many not right on the highway. Keokuk, Fort Madison and Mount Pleasant are good sized and right on the highway, but I can't think of anythign interesting to do in any of those. There's a nice casino at Riverside, about 2 miles from the highway. Riverside is about 20 minutes south of Iowa City.

Depending on when you're coming up, Iowa City can be a lot of fun. This is finals week, so all of the students are leaving and things quiet down until August when they come back.
Thanks for the feedback.
We may divert to Hannibal, Mo. We've a day to kill between cities.
