intinerary feedback

I have 13 nights in alaska and a rental car.
We are traveling with a 9 and 11 year old. Not really ourdoorsy people ,but love beautiful scenery. We have the great alaskan toursaver for any of you who are familiar with that. We were considering the following itineraries:
Itinerary #1
First night Anch
2 nights copper center princess (coupon)
2 nights valdez
3 nights seward (coupon)
4 nights alyeska resort (coupon)
2 nights talkeetna for flightseeing

Itinerary #2

1 night anchorage
3 nights homer
4 nights seward (coupons)
4 nights alyeska (coupons)
2 nights talkeetna flightseeing

Truthfully, the whole Denali thing does not sit well with me knowing my son's intolerance for long trips. Also I don't think we can get a real feel for a place when we run too many places. I can;t help but feel that I may really be missing something by not going to homer. Also, I get mixed feedback on fairbanks.Help!

I think you are smart.

Denali is nice but I won't do it again. It is a long, hard day for adults. I think it woud be real hard with a child.

IMO, you are definitely concentrating on the best part of southcentral Alaska. We didn't do the Copper River/Valdez area but I read that it is fabulous.

It seems like you could do Copper Center, Valdez, Seward, Alyeska, AND Homer if you cut out Talkeetna. It is a pretty good ways up there and back, using up some of your time.

Just my opinion. That's the trip I will take next time.

OK for anyone who cares, here is what I finally came up with.
2 nights anchorage (Coupon free night)
3 nights Homer- lands end
3 nights seward- Hotel Edgewater(Coupon)
ferry to Valdez
2 nights Valdez- Aspen (Coupon)
2 nights Copper River Princess lodge (Coupon )(Wrangell/St Elias)
2 nights Castle Mountain B & B on Glenn Highway.

We figure that we can get the flightseeing in Talkeetna in on the first full day in Anchorage. We think it would make a fun day trip and give us a chance to see Denali (the mountain) without listening to our 9 year old whining on the school bus. However, we will probably still be hearing it, because that absolutely gorgeous house that we rented on the last two nights (we splurged and rented the whole thing for privacy 250 a night- a bargain!) has no TV.

rubigayle,

Think you have a good plan. We did a very similar trip last summer for 2 weeks.

I just have a couple of suggestions. Instead of going all the way up to Talkeetna from Anchorage, why not go when you're a bit closer the last two days? It might also be a good break from the no tv whining you're anticipating from the kids.

Also wonder why you've chosen Copper River for two nights? We loved the area around Valdez, especially if you plan to hike, and I'd suggest another night there. Then perhaps if there's availability, stay an extra night at Castle Mt and spend some time on Hatcher Pass.

Just some thoughts. Please ask any more questions.
