Innisfree Garden, a spectacular site in the Hudson Valley

Jump to last reply

This beautiful site definitely belongs on the A-list of places to visit in the Hudson Valley. Our visit there over the weekend took our breath away.

To quote from its brochure: "Recognized as one of the 'world's ten best gardens,' Innisfree is a powerful icon of 20th century landscape design. Over 50 years in the making....Innisfree merges the essence pf Moderism ideas and traditional Chinese and Japanese garden design principles with a nuanced reading of its glacial landscape. The result is a distinctly American stroll garden 0n 185 acres surrounding a large simmering lake--a sublime composition of rock, water, wood and sky."

Located in Millbrook, NY, it's easy to find, just off the Taconic State Parkway. It could easily be tied in with a visit to Hyde Park, which is about 20 miles away.

It ranks right up there with the Storm King Art Center.
