Inlaws are babysitting - need a romantic weekend getaway idea from NYC
My inlaws are coming in from New Mexico and they agreed to watch our 2 yr old for the weekend. It is also my husband's birthday so I'd like to take him somewhere to celebrate.
We are not big beach people (we don't care for the sand), but we love boats...we just want somewhere to relax...
We've recently been to the Poconos, Newport, pts in Maine, Mystic, Cape May, Spring Lake, Lake George...
Thanks

Well, for the whole romantic, boat thing, I would certainly re-think Newport. If you haven't already, book yourself a seaside suite at the Castle Hill Inn and charter a sunset sail for two with champagne! How romantic is that?

When -- that might make a difference? I love Philly, Boston. How about in Western MA ..Lenox? Hudson Valley? westport or Greenwich CT? Litchfield County CT [no boats tho]. Lake Placid?
And be sure to ask in-laws to bring you tortilla and chiles.
Hope this helps..

If you like water, my first suggestion would be the St Michaels area on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, it is such a beautiful unspoiled part of the east coast. Lots of inland waterways for boating and you can get out into Chesapeake Bay, there are many good restaurants and shops and good antiquing. This is about 4 hours from NYC. If you can, stay at the Inn at Perry Cabin (http://www.perrycabin.com), there are other B&Bs and inns as well.
I also agree on the Greenwich recco if you want to be closer to home to get back quickly to NYC. I would recco the wonderful and luxurious Delmar. It is on the waterfront harbor in town and has very nice water views. You could rent a boat and tool around the sound. You can shop and eat in Greenwich. The hotel is lovely and you could drive there pretty easily from NYC, you could even take Metro North and leave the car behind. Go to http://www.thedelamar.com or slh.com.

Thanks for all the ideas.
Castle Hill is booked and very expensive $600/night (it looks really nice)
Everything in Newport is at least $350/night.
Perry cabin is booked
We've been to Mohonk...
We now can stay sat-mon - originally we were only going to go for one night, but my husband got monday off (inlaws are arriving late friday night)
My husband would rather not go to a b&b because of the"pressure" to wake up early for breakfast!
I would like to be near the water...maybe I will check out Greenwich, but I think I want to go a little farther and feel like we are away.
Any other ideas?
Thanks!
