without a doubt, mt st helens, the sites are amazing. also seattle, pike st market etc. montana and idaho are similar, lots of neat scenery, western wash is completely different tho, longest uninterupted ocean beach in the world at long beach wa, green green green!
I think that Washington is a beautiful area. It is the only one that I have been to. I agree that Mt St. Helens is pretty cool too, but I would also take time to maybe see the majestic forests surrounding that region. I have also been to Long Beach, where I would also recommend. The beach is nice but windy, and you might want to see some of the funny museums and tourist attractions. If you get a chance to go to Oregon, preferibly Portland, that would also be a great opportunity. Portland lights up at night with a waterfront and has many excellent brewpubs.
A week is precious little time to cover this much ground. However, visit Seattle's Pike Place market for a taste of the City and great views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mtns. weather permitting. Eat at the Wild Ginger, take a ferry ride to Winslow. If I had just a day in Western Washington, I would drive up to Sunrise on Mount Rainier, take a walk, and sit in awe of pure nature. I would have a stop at Snoqualmie Falls because it's terrific and very close to I-90. Unfortunately, when you get to Montana, you have to choose between a northerly route through Glacier, or a southerly route through Yellowstone. It's a longer drive, but I'd say Glacier. Keep in mind that I just skipped over Eastern WA and northern Idaho. These are beautiful places in their own right, but you're going to miss something with just a week.
