Info. on Captain Zodiac Toursin Kauai
We are going to Kauai on our honeymoon and are thinking of taking a Captain Zodiac tour and wanted to know if it was worth the time and cost. Also, would you recommend the sunrise, sunset, morning or afternoon tour? Thank you!

Kim, you didn't say when you are planning to be in Kauai. We did the Zodiac about 6 years ago in August and it was great. During the winter the surf on the north coast is too rough for the boats.
It is definatly worth the time and money - Also consider doing the helicopter tour , it's the best of all the islands.

Absolutely take the Captain Zodiac ride. I did it in October of 1998 and next to the helicopter ride in Kauai it was the memorable part of my two week stay on four different islands. I would go in the morning or afternoon. Capt. Zodiac's website is

Plus make sure you drive up to the top of Waimaea (sp?) Canyon on Kauai. It is breathtaking, especially at the top where you can park and walk to
an overlook to see the Na Pali Coastline.

It is absolutely worth the money. We went last year in June. Take the morning trip. We all loved it. Also, hike the Na Pali coast (the first mile or so). Take water and food in a backpack and be sure to take your camera. We did this the day after our Captain Zodiac trip. On the raft it was hard to believe there was a trail there. Then when we hiked it we could really appreciate just what we were doing. I fell in love with Kauai and wish I could live there. Have a great time!!

Definite. Take the morning raft trip because by the afternoon it starts to collect rain clounds and much of your view could be obstructed- in addition to being rained on. Also, please be aware that the trip down to see the coast line is very pleasant, the return trip- going against the ocean current- will be very choppy and you will have to use a lot of energy to hold on to the raft for quite a long period of time
( much of which depends on the tunrs in the weather- which is frequent in that part of the island.). I have been told by others that the catamaran is a smoother ride, but you don't get to go as close to the coast or into caves along the coast on the initial part of the trip. The raft was fun and worth the trip, but our rear ends and arms were sore the next day from being bounced around so much! It is worth the pain!

Hi Kim - did the Napali Coast tour thing in Sept. We didn't go with Captain Zodiac - used Paradise Adventures instead. We did take the catamaran. I'm glad we did - you really bounce around on the waves and at least this way you are sitting in a boat. On the zodiacs, you just sit on those tubes and hang on! With regard to the previous message about not going in caves - thats not true - at least on our ride we were able to go in quite a few caves. So for the comfort I would recommend against the zodiac - and also take some seasickness medicine just in case. But its really a fun trip - especially watching the spinner dolphins follow the boat.
