Info about Newseum Parking in D.C.

Forgive if D.C. posters have written about this already, but did you know there is an underground parking garage at the Newseum? The parking entrance is on 6th and C Streets, NW. At 6 p.m., when I was driving, there was lots of traffic. Folks turning left without traffic lights slowed everyone down. Allow extra time if you have an appointment. I paid $20 for 4 hours in the evening so it isn't a bargain but it sure was convenient. The elevator I took was separate than Newseum one. Turn right to winding hallway to actual Newseum entry.

I attended an event there recently and was guided to this link for on-site parking:

http://www.newseum.org/visit/getting-here/

If you are driving, 6th Street, NW is your best for access*. It is not a one-way street which makes life easier. From the south**, turn right on C Street NW; from the north***, turn left. Watch carefully for the parking lot entrance. The right-hand turn is quite sharp.

As always, corrections and additions, kindly made are always welcome!

*I didn't try it but C Street may not be a straight shot in both directions.

**Constitution and Pennsylvania Avenues are the next streets to the south. 6th t-bones at the National Gallery of Art

**Look at a map to double-check. Indiana Ave. is the street before C.

It's weirdly hidden, isn't it? We came across it last time we were down there and it was so convenient!

Wow -- Great tip!

And a flat rate of $15 on the weekend! As you say, not an absolute bargain but a very convenient location and not a bad price relative to other city prices.

There is a private parking garage directly across from it on 6th St (COlonial Parking) which has a $15 per day rate on weekends, also, and is cheaper in the evenings, I always park there when in that area. It has a flat rate of only $15 for the evening if you enter after 5 pm.

Good to know, Christina, thanks.

FYI, Colonial is showing 8th street when I googled. I'm sure I saw parking to the right when I turned left onto C but don't recall the name.
