Many of you contributed to my 2015 thread about inexpensive places ($25 and under for a dinner main course, $15 and under for lunch) to eat in New York, which I greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, Mr. Pickle ended up in the hospital in Stamford with gall bladder problems, so we weren't able to spend time in New York.

We're leaving for NYC Sunday, May 7th, and coming home on the 12th. I'd love to hear your suggestions for lunch and dinner options near the places we'll be. We have a couple of Groupon deals that we will probably use on Tuesday, but other than that we're pretty flexible. Our price range is mentioned in my first paragraph.

Monday, May 8th

The Cloisters
Walk by the Guggenheim on the way to the Met (since we are both currently looking for work, we plan to take advantage of the Met's same-day admission policy)
What would be a good lunch option near the Guggenheim and Met?
Dinner idea?

Tuesday, May 9th

High Line
Check out a bit of Greenwich Village
MoMA
Hamilton
Again, we plan to use Groupons this day, but if there is a can't-miss food option, I'd love to hear about it.

Wednesday, May 10th

New York Botanic Garden
Hamilton Grange
I'm thinking about Charles' Country Pan Fried Chicken for lunch, as it's near the Grange, but we'd love a dinner suggestion. We don't have to be on the Upper West Side for dinner.

Soup dumplings and other Shanghai food in Chinatown, go to Shanghai Cafe at 100 Mott Street, just north of Canal.

If you go to Roberto's in the Bronx, try to order off the specials board, not from the menu. Get the pasta he cooks in the aluminum foil. But that place is not cheap.

For someplace cheap up there, go to Arthur Avenue corner of Fordham Road. One block south of that corner, on the northwest corner of Arthur Avenue at #2483, is a pizza place. Looks unremarkable. The name is something like Tony and Tina, or something close to that.

Go inside and get whatever boreks they have on that day. Might be cheese, spinach, pumpkin, meat, etc. Must get pumpkin if they have it. Can also get a cup of homemade yogurt, very loose in Albanian style. Those boreks are some of the best cheap eats in the city. I take home a few everytime I drive up there. They reheat well. (Borek is flaky, middle eastern phyllo pastry stuffed and baked)

Kaia Wine Bar (African Tapas) near the Guggenheim has a couple of choices of $6 wine (reg $15) during happy hour 4 to 7pm. Sliders are $5 per burger, a few interesting choices, and you could share an entrée or flatbread as well.
Two glasses wine plus two sliders plus an order of African deviled eggs and a shared plate of South African Mac & Cheese = $45 plus tax n tip.

Check out the "Curtain Up" exhibit at the NY Public Library, celebrating Broadway & London's West End Theatres.

We often just eat at the Met cafeteria. No bargain, but well within your limit, and quite good for its kind.

I did not know they opened a Mighty Quinn uptown. I agree with Fra, one of the nest BBQ joints around, especially the side dishes.

I play pub trivia every week at one of the best BBQ places in town, so although Mighty Quinn sounds wonderful, we may skip it.

Quick question - we're signed for a Prohibition pub crawl Monday evening at 6, which starts at William Barnacle's Tavern down on St. Mark's Place. We will definitely want some dinner before we start; we'll be at the Met and then heading down to the bar. What's good and cheap down around St. Mark's Place?

If you can get into Ippudo's it is on 4th Ave and 9th Street. Always crowded. Ramen.

There is Boka a good Korean fried chicken right on St. Mark's.

Around the corner on 2nd is Paul's Da Burger Joint. A local dive that is fortunately still not in the guide books.

Cafe Mogador, Moroccan right on St. Marks

Veleska if you stick to the Eastern European favorites.

If I want a cheap place near the Met I eat at Le Pain Quotidien on Madison. It's a chain, but the food is good and it always seems popular. Maybe you could manage dessert at the Neue afterwards.

One last question (maybe) - we've changed Central Park tours on Friday and will be done around noon. I'd like to go to Greenwich Village before we have to pick up our luggage and go to the airport. Any good inexpensive lunch suggestions?

Quality inexpensive places in the West Village is more of a problem. One place we like, but it is crowded and they do not take reservations is Mary's Fish Camp. I would buy a sandwich at Faico's and go eat it in Washington Square Park.

Google Faico's, they make old fashioned Italian-American specialties.

And then you can get ice cream at Cones on Bleecker, gelati at Grom, or Italian pastries at Bruno's.

Chelsea Market off the Highline has lots of food options.

I think a picnic in Washington Square park suggested above makes sense. You could go to Caffe Reggio for a classic coffee house experience if you have time

I was going to recommend Yonah Schimmels but I see your husband already has that on the list.

In far West Village, there is also Van Leeuwen at 152 West 10th for incredible ice cream. I had the sea salt caramel the other night and am still reliving the taste memory!! It's expensive for ice cream but it really is worth the price. I think we paid $5.50 for the smallest size cup. Look at the ingredients:

Another Village option is Mamoun's Falafel, which has fed generations of NYU students (best for takeout). There's a shop on MacDougal St a short walk from Washington Square Park, and another on St Mark's Place.
