Inexpensive motel near Jackson airport

This will be the first of many questions I ask of the fabulous fodorites while planning my trip to YNP and GTNP. We leave out on an 8am flight from Jackson Hole airport and wanted to stay the last night in somewhere cheap and convenient to the airport. Is there such a thing?

The airport is a very small airport less than 10 miles from the small town of Jackson WY. Your best bet is a motel in Jackson.

There's no town/community closer to the airport - other than Moose, WY. You could see how much a cabin at Dornan's would cost -

- but I'm guessing they will be more $$$ and save you only 5 minutes.

Look at Four Winds for a very basic motel with rates around $100 (bargain in that resort area). Bonus is its location a short walk from shops and restos for your evening before departure.

If you really want a basic motel, there is Flat Creek Inn and Elk Refuge Motel just south of the airport. If you want a little more upscale, there is the Lexington which is north of the square in Jackson.

Thanks. I'm experiencing a little sticker-shock with the prices of the hotels. I'm going to check into Elk Refuge and Four Winds. I may book them for the part of the trip I'm in GTNP. I'm trying to get into Signal Mountain Lodge or one of the little cabins, but I realize I'm late and may not find a cancellation. We usually spend so little time in the room, I hate to spend too much.

There is a Motel 6 on the south end of Jackson. We (Mr. Pickle, our teenage son, and me) stayed there in June 2010; it's been recently renovated, was clean and comfortable, and it's just a few minutes from the airport.

We enjoyed staying at Cache Creek Lodge. It is on the north end of Jackson, so it is relatively close to the airport. Our room had a bed in the front room, a kitchenette, and a separate bedroom with a balcony (no view).

If you stay on the south side of Jackson then keep an eye out for signs directing you around the center of Jackson and back to the main road that goes to the airport.

Thanks to all. I booked the motel 6 for the last night and for the time we're visiting GTNP. Still trying to get in the park, but have something booked if we don't get in.
