I am looking for some ideas for a weekend trip to the Mystic/Stonington area. As college undergrads, my friends and I are looking for inexpensive ideas! The cheaper the better! Any ideas outsde of the typical museum/aquarium activities which come up in internet searches?

Borrow or rent some kayaks or canoes and explore the coves in the area. You can put into Quambaug cove by parking at the light company on route 1 between Mystic and Stonnington. Or put in near the Seaport, or at the area on the Groton side of the river near the hiway overpass. Go to the lighthouse museum out on Stonington Burrough. Go over to Watch Hill and hike out arround Napatree point. Hike up on the nature perserve that is on the side of river road on the Groton side of the river. Take pictures or sketch some of the interesting homes in Mystic or Stonnington. See if there is going to be a free concert in the little park on the Stonington side of the river near the drawbridge. People watch in that park, watch boats jockey for space waiting for the bridge to go up.
There are two seafood shacks right along the river between the I-95 exit and Mystic Seaport. Both have cheap, good seafood. The second one (from I-95) is open for breakfast and lunch year round. The other has picnic tables and isn't.
Right about the budget conscious eats. Rachel Ray did the eating well for $40 per day having breakfast at Kitchen Little on route 27 and the river, lunch at Sea Swirl on route 1 between Mystic and Stonington, and dinner at Noah's in Stonington Burrough. I forgot to mention two other hiking places, Barn Island off route 1 in Stonington past the Burrough and Bluff point off route 1 in Groton. Both are free and you could put in a boat at Barn Island.
