Inexpensive hotel in Vegas on Saturday night

We will be arriving in Vegas late in the day on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend and flying home on Sunday. We have been to Vegas before, but would like to find a place that has shuttle service to the strip. I know that strip hotels have very expensive prices for Saturday nights. Would we be better off to stay off the strip or downtown? Can somebody suggest a nice, safe place that will offer a reasonable price on Saturday night? Thanks.

Did you check out the rates at The Orleans? I haven't looked at their rates for Memorial Day, but we'll be staying there in mid Dec. and the Sat. night rate is only $35, $20 the other nights.

Priceline is a good idea nearer to the time - I wasn't sure if even with Priceline I could find a good Saturday night rate. I will check the website of Orleans and see what they offer - thanks for the suggestion. So far I've only found decent rates for off strip hotels such as Comfort Inn, Super 8 and the Hampton Inn in Summerlin. I wondered if it would be inconvenient to stay in Summerlin? We will have Saturday evening and most of the day Sunday to spend in Vegas.

Gold Coast is the less-expensive sister hotel to the Orleans, but neither of them is likely to accept a one-nighter on Saturday of a holiday weekend. There are only a few 2-star hotels that will usually do that...The Super 8 on Koval, The Quality Inn on Flamingo(they have a shuttle TO the strip but not back FROM the strip)...perhaps Tuscany Suites on Flamingo. Stay away from the Rodeway Inn, the Comfort Inn on Paradise, any Days Inns or Best Westerns in the area. La Quinta Inn on Paradise would be another decent choice.

I'd book something cancellable at this point since your trip is many months away and plans can change.

You might want to try Palace Station - it's an older hotel on Sahara, not that far from the Strip. Their rates are usually reasonable and they have some pretty good restaurants. But, considering it's only 1 night on a holiday, good luck.
