We're heading back to Indiana (lived there for about a year) to visit my mother-in-law in West Lafayette (her birthday) over Memorial Day weekend. We're flying in and will have a car.
I'm planning on heading down to Indy on Sunday for the 500. I've been twice in the past (mid 90's)and both times I parked in Speedway at a friend's house and walked the couple miles to the track. This time, I'm unsure of my best bet.
It will just be me (and I don't mind walking a few miles)... any ideas would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance...

We've gone to the race for the past several years and parking anywhere near (within a mile or two) the track is a real hassle.
One year got there real early and parked in one of the lots directly across the street from the track. Getting out was a bear. It took us almost 2 hours just to get out of the parking lot and onto the road leading away from the track. we vowed never to do that again.
The next year we parked in front of some building about 1 1/2 miles from the track - it took us quite a while to walk to the track and again after the race the crowds were such that we spent almost an hour getting back to the car even though the race ended 90 minutes earlier. Traffic was a mess.
Last year we took one of the shuttle busses from downtown Indy. This worked out great. Getting to the track was a snap (we were at the track withinn 20 minutes of leaving the parking lot). It's a 5 minute walk from the shuttle bus drop-off area to the nearest entrance gate. Going home took a bit longer, perhaps 30 minutes actually on the bus. You might recall there was a rain delay and after the race it rained again as we were queing up for the buses causing a bit of caos on the lines at the shuttle bus stop but even so the lines moved relatively quick and once on the bus the ride back downtown was trouble free.
Shuttle busses leave from several different areas downtown and there's plenty of free parking nearby, if you need it. The details are all laid out in the local paper. We plan on doing it again this year.
Thx for the info on the shuttle buses... I'll definitely look into it!
