We will be flying into Indianapolis and attending an event in Bloomington in May. Are there any sights of interest to visit while we are in those areas?

It may depend on your interests. The architecture of Columbus can be interest. Brown County is a little interesting and pretty in the limestone hills of southern Indiana. If into car racing, there is the Indy 500 track and museum. It will be very busy in May especially on the weekends with time trails. Drive through the covered bridges in Park County. Most of the touristy items are pretty low key.
I did a trip report on an Indianapolis visit back a while ago:

Bachslunch,
I just read your report and really enjoyed it. I am delighted to read that you found the sights of Indianapolis interesting as I expect to be passing through there during the next couple of years (my so was just accepted to Purdue.) Based on your report, I think we'll take some time for sightseeing in Indianapolis - thanks!
