Chicago is one of those rare US cities that has a mass transit system sufficiently well-developed that you can actually get around without a car. Check out

for info.
Once you get there, don't miss the Field Museum of Natural History, Science Museum, Hayden Planeterium, Shedd Aquarium, Art Institute, Sears Tower (on a clear day), Lincoln Park Zoo, Billy Goat Tavern("Cheezboiger! Cheezboiger!") and any of a hundred other restaurants of superb quality.
....and the Chicago HIstorical Society (a very do-able, interesting museum - good exhibits on Lincoln, the Chicago Fire and lots of other stuff; and right in Lincoln Park -- at the southern edge at NOrth Avenue and Clark, --so you can combine with a zoo foray; and a stroll down Michigan Avenue; and Chicago-style pizza; and a cocktail atop the Hancock Center; and one of the best piano bars ever in the Drake Hotel (Coq d'Or, lower level); and Crate and Barrel; and Marshall Fields; and the Museum of Science and Industry...in other words, Ronda, Chicago is a neat town with lots to do. YOu may be surprised. I spent a lifetime there up to three years ago;
e-m me if you have questions.
