If you're passing by then it's a nice place to stop, check out the lake. You used to be able to run/tumble down the dunes - not sure if you still can. Fun for a short break.
It's only about 1.5 from there to Saugatuck, and I assume you'll get plenty of lake time there, so unless you're in need of a car break, personally I would just drive on to my destination.
Not quite sure why the Indiana Dunes are tagged Michigan...
My kids and I spent a lovely afternoon at the Indiana Dunes earlier this summer. But there are dunes all along the Michigan shore of Lake Michigan so there's probably no need to stop at those in Indiana.
We go to the dunes once or twice a summer from Chicago. If you do decide to stop, check out the website and choose which beach to go to based on your needs.
We prefer a beach without a lifeguard, because they don't allow inflatables in the water and they don't let you go in any deeper than your chest. My kids are teenagers and that's too restrictive for them. If yours are young, you may prefer a life-guarded beach. Availability of parking also varies widely from beach to beach.
