In Need of a Hawaiian Playlist for an Upcoming Trip!
My parents and I are less than 2 weeks from a trip to Maui and the Big Island. While on the Big Island, we'll be renting a boat (privately) for a day. I just purchased a portable speaker set for my iPod and am now trying to find some music that will set the Hawaiian mood. What are your Hawaiian favorites?

Any IZ cd, but this one especially

for "Somewhere Over the Rainbow".

There's a big thread on Hawaiian music somewhere in the Hawaii folder. You'll find tons of recommendations there.
I'm not an expert, but Willie K, with or without Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom, is great.

Jack Johnson!! Always puts me in a beach mood, especially for his home state
Also good -- "Blue Hawaii" (I like it best as an instrumental) and if you're a LOST fan, Glenn Miller's "Moonlight Serenade."

I can't find the thread that gyppielou is referring to. the search function is less than reliable.
Anyhow, I would include all of Hapa's first album on your playlist. Barefoot Natives is another group that is all over my Hawaiian playlist.

hi beanweb~ Once you're there, don't overlook the local radio stations (not for your boat day or ipod obviously). Just in hotel rooms I've heard some great stuff, using either the TV or clock radio!

Well done Suzie,
I like the National Geographic Destination mix and have given it as gifts.
Although not Hawaiian, I always travel with the soundtracks to
Garden State and A Broke Down Melody and some Jack Johnson.
Anything else is taken care of on island with the radio stations, and the rest of our cd's or ipod selections.

I'm not sure if you can still download the free music from Hemispheres magazine, but here's my post on the subject:
