Imperial Palace Las Vegas Trip Report
My family recently went to Las Vegas to attend our daughters wedding. She made the trip arrangements and we were booked into the Imperial Palace for 3 nights.
The problems started as soon as we tried to check in. We booked four rooms (My wife and mine, our daughter and fiancee, his parents and another daughter)). Each room was charged a $120 deposit. Since the grooms parents did not have a credit card they had to deposit cash. Our single daughter also didn't have a credit card so my wife had to put the deposit on another of our cards. The bride to be and groom were not even given an upgrade or any kind of comps for their wedding.
The rooms were in another building behind the main hotel and took a good ten minutes to walk to them. We were all so hungry by the time we got settled in that we went upstairs to the Burger Palace to eat. A cheeseburger platter was $8.99 and was absoutely the worst burger I have ever tried to eat! ( and my family will tell you that I will eat almost anything). The wedding on Thursday went off with a few minor problems (but that is a complaint for someone else).
The good news is that after the wedding we went to the Emperor's Buffet in our hotel. We were all very apprehensive, but it was worth the $18.99 price.
All in all I definetly do not recommend staying in the Imperial palace.

Sorry about your stay at IP, I opened to read it hoping for changes. This is hotel that was used by Elderhostel, not sure if still is.
But there is an auto museum on top of IP, interesting place to see!

I recall walking into the Imperial Palace maybe 12 years ago while staying at the nearby Flamingo. The IP casino floor was absolutely nothing to write home about decor wise and I remember wondering if the casino is the face of the hotel as far as attractiveness, how would the rooms look.

Funky, yes, but not in a good way. Old, yes, and I am believe the IP's days are numbered. Cabbie told me that it is going to be demolished and that Harrah's is going to make one big casino/hotel from Flamingo to Harrah's. Would not be surprised if the plans are on hold.
The rooms are pretty basic. Had one of their upgraded rooms, with the luv tub, but still pretty basic. For example, there is no closet. Just the bars with the hangers on them. The hangers didn't have a hook but had a loop that went over the bar, so you couldn't remove them. Third rate stuff like that.
Also stayed in one of their suites on top. Very roomy, but the view was of the roof. This was just second, not third, rate. It has a younger, budget, crowd.

I believe that the IP is one of the lower rungs on the ladder for dealers. That they get trained and start working (apprenticing?) at the low-table-limit places up the strip. Then when they are ready they step up to the IP. The old school guys/gals are at Caesars.

Have you checked the regular nightly room rates for Harrahs and Flamingo on either side of IP? They run about $250. The Mirage and Caesars Palace are usually over $300. While the Wynn and I think MGM have been giving away rooms lately (on specific days), the original price of a room at the Wynn was $600. Yes some of these hotels may give amazing deals, but you kind of have to go when they want you to go. The IP is always about $80./ night. Not only is it center strip, It has its own tram stop that Wynn does not. So imagine a hotel in Times Square overlooking the New Years ball drop, that is $80./night. Don't you think it's a bit much to expect it to be nice, or have great service? I think it is amazing that it has room service ar all, and while you may have to wait a while, it does have 24 hr room service and a pretty nice swimming pool. I think its a good deal.

My husband and I stayed there once a few years ago. Never again! The cigarette smoke permeated that whole building. We were on the 17th floor in a non smoking room and it was still horrible. We were trying to go to Vegas on the cheap, but I won't do that cheap again.

I just wrote a new post with a question about: "The rooms were in another building behind the main hotel and took a good ten minutes to walk to them." Also, "Sorry about your stay at IP, I opened to read it hoping for changes. This is hotel that was used by Elderhostel, not sure if still is."
Can you, Mersingary, and, Dayenu, please let me understand this a little bit more?!!
Thanks.
