Sammy - we tried to get info on this resort also, as we watched it being built last time we were on Oahu and it is in a great location. Our travel agent said it has just been bought out by Marriott, and she was never able to get anyone at the hotel and/or tour company to return her calls, so we booked somewhere else (Kahala Mandarin). It makes me think that perhaps the buy-out isn't going smoothly, and it might not be the best place to stay until things settle down. (?)

We swam in front of the hotel and it is a lovely setting but way away from the hub bub of the main strip. Nice looking golf course. The pool area seemed kind of small but the setting was really pretty and much nicer than Waikiki in my opinion. Lots of traffic to get anywhere.

My family stayed at the Ihilani during Christmas and New Years 2000. The hotel had recently turned into a JW Marriott. It was exquisite. The staff was unbelievably helpful- from front desk people to valets to the lovely lady in the downstairs commissary. We left the Sheraton Moana for the Ihilani because of the crowds at that hotel and in Waikiki. The reservationist upgraded us to a junior suite. The bathrooms are marble and spa-like. The spa and fitness club were great, as was the tennis staff. The food is wonderful but expensive. The lagoon was warm and gentle with complimentry lagoon aerobics. The childrens club was reasonable and a fellow named Rudi made my son feel very special while teaching hi, about Hawaiian culture. The downside is that you are away from the Waikiki nightlife, shopping ect. That was not a downside for us. You can reach Honolulu proper in 25 minutes if it is not rush hour. Marriott is now building condos and a time share in the same Ko'Olina area. You can walk from the hotel past the 4 lagoons that were built- a 1.5 mile walk or jog. This is a semi remote but beautiful place. Many sports figures(baseball and football) stay here, as well as, N'Sync during our trip. If you search carefully you may find a discount here during low season times-try Marriott's web site. I also saw a Costco package in their travel magazine. This hotel is definitely for the picky traveler. Your travel agent- like my former travel agent probably has no clue. The Marriott reservation line is open 24 hours a day. If the hotel itself did not answer- did she double check that it was during business hours and consider the time difference? This is the most amazing of resorts but again not if you want Waikiki crowds.
