Ideas for Thanksgiving Weekend Getaway

Live in Milwaukee and trying to get away for Thanksgiving but no great flight options. If we choose to drive, what nearby cities have some good sightseeing, museums, art galleries etc to enjoy during the day -- husband doesn't enjoy shopping. Looking at Indianapolis, St. Louis, Cleveland, Detroit, something not too far...we do Chicago regularly so would like to use the extra time to explore another area.

Are you planning to travel Wed.-Sun.? This is one of the busiest travel periods, flying or driving. We head to Cleveland from MI every year and always have the worst traffic on Wednesday afternoon and evening. Usually head home on Saturday to avoid the Sunday rush.

You might also want to consider Madison and Minneapolis...

We aren't considering Madison because it is a quick trip for us and can be done any weekend. Looking to travel on Thursday and return either Sunday or Monday. Minneapolis is a thought but we have been there numerous times and we are trying to find something new.

IMO Indianapolis is a great city for a weekend getaway. It shouldn't be as cold and you have everything a big city has, museums, good restaurants, sporting events, cultural activities, shopping, without the hassle. My son goes to school there and I always look forward to the trip down there.

wheretogousa.com recommends the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton. They have a review.
