Ideas for family vacation in Charlotte, NC

My family lives in NY, Pittsburgh and Boston. We are looking for a place (warmer than any of these places) to meet in March to celebrate a daughter's birthday. We are 4 adults and 2 children, 3 and 2 years old. I heard about Wolf Lodge indoor water park which sounds like it could be fun for a couple days. I am looking for suggestions for other places to go near Charlotte-we all like the outdoors so a hotel in or near a preserve or park would be great.
Also open to any other suggestions for a place to go for this family get-together other than Charlotte. Thanks.
