Ideas for 30th Birthday at Lake Tahoe over the 4th of July weekend
I'm planning on spending my 30th birthday at Lake Tahoe over the 4th of July holiday, and I'm looking for ideas. As of now the group could be anywhere from 4-10 people flying in from all over with various interests ranging from night life lovers to outdoor enthusiasts to home bodies. I'd love to have a mix of everything: biking, hiking, boating, and clubbing. I'm thinking of staying at South Lake. Any other suggestions? Should I hotel it or look into renting a cabin? Also how busy and expensive will things be over the holiday weekend? Are there any tour or vacation packages available so I don't have to do all the thinking and planning? Any input or help would be greatly appreciated.

I can't help except to say if you want nightlife, South Lake is pretty much your only choice. There is no nightlife, other than restaurants, around most of the rest of the lake (although the Hyatt Incline Village probably has some form of entertainment). Even then, I don't know if there are "clubs" of the Las Vegas sort -- I've never thought of Lake Tahoe as a place where you would go "clubbing".

Expect it to be really crowded. Expect not to drive around the lake on this weekend. The Traffice will be really bad. If you can stay in one spot and walk to places that will be best.
Having access to a boat would be good as well. Being able to boat around is much better than trying to drive.
We don't go clubbing in Tahoe so I can't help you much there. SLT would be the best place for that activity as there is just more to do there than other parts of the lake.
I’ve stayed at the Marriott properties next to the Heavenly Gondola and I think you’d like it there. I believe you can use the private beach down Park Ave which you’d be able to walk to unless you have physical issues. You could walk to casinos and pubs as well as dining and shopping. There is a great grocery store across the street. The units have kitchens and living areas as well as pools and Jacuzzis. It’s kind of the best of both worlds cabin/hotel. Just no room service.
