I am looking for an itinerary that will have me in San Fran for two days; 1-2 days in Yosemite to hike; and a car drive down the coast to LA. How long do you suggest for Yosemite; what are the best places to stop on the coastal road to LA; are their in-land places we should visit; is 8 days enough for this trip (we only plan to spend 1-2 days in LA).
Thanks from Canada!

When is the trip? The very first thing you need to do is try to book a room in Yosemite sometime during your dates. Then plan your itinerary around when/IF you can get a room.
If you can't get Yosemite accommodations (it books up months in advance) then you'll likely be spending the whole time along the coast.
I would not go to Yosemite without inpark lodging. It's a drive to outside lodging and Californians like their cars so traffic jams in and around the park are bad.
There are several parts to the park and depending on when you're going some won't be open.
It might be better to drive north to south, leave SFO and head south to LA, then drive back along the faster inland routes to Yosemite; return the car at SFO, and visit SF last. You don't need a car in SF.
