I don't gamble, what to do in Las Vegas for 3 days?
In mid-October I am travelling through Las Vegas with my boyfriend & 2 friends, stopping for a bit of R&R for 2 nights and 3 days. My friends and I are not big gamblers and so we are looking for suggestions of what to do... its our first time! Any hints on a good cheapish hotel and where to eat would be great. (A friend has made me swear to vist "In & Out burgers"... ;-)

Since it's your first time, I think you can get a lot of fun mileage out of just strolling through some of the hotels and casinos -- no need to play.
The lions at MGM.
The decor and the fountains at Bellagio.
The malls and sites at Venetian, Ceasars Palace, and Aladdin.
New York, New York for the roller coaster.
The Eifel Tower at Paris.
Well, let's face it -- nearly every big hotel has something to see.

There are no cheapish Strip hotels in Vegas in Oct. It is a BIG convention month and all the strip hotels are charging rather high rates. If you want to stay off-strip you can find lower rates (check the Orleans for starters). If you really want to stay on the strip I guess you could find a lower-priced room at Imperial Palace (but it is rather a dump I think). The Fontier is another that may have lower rates in Oct.
Even if you do not gamble there are penny slot machines you an experiment with Also, 5 cents, etc. You do not have to gamble big time in order to participate in the casino experience.
You can certainly enjoy your hotel's pool and also shop, as well as enjoy sightseeing in all the hotels. Just wandering around the hotels and malls attached to some of them will fill in plenty of non-gambling time.
Don't worry about what you are going to do, once you get there you will understand what I mean.
As for eating - there is everything from McDonald's and various other fast foods to ultra-gourmet dining. All hotels have coffee shops as well as various other priced restuarants. You will not lack for places to eat in any price range.

Dear first time poster and Vegas visitor:
Find the box on the upper right of this page and scroll down to Nevada. Click on that. Scroll through those postings until your scrolling finger hurts. You will find a plethora of info that applies to your questions. You can also conduct a more detailed search if that suits you better.
In general: don't worry about it, stay up very late and just wander about, things will come to you.

I go to Vegas several times a year and do not gamble a penny.
Some say gambling is a tax on stupidity. I say if it's for entertainment & free drinks, why not? I'd just rather spend my money in other ways.

Simply people-watching while exploring the strip can be great fun in Vegas!
There are also side trips like Hoover Dam and the Red Rocks. There are many free sights and attractions inside the various resorts, as already mentioned.
It cost a bit more money, but you can also go to the Grand Canyon. It is more pricey and is basically a full day trip, but I know many people take advantage of the proximity.
I will second the note that food is all over Vegas and you can find cheap stuff pretty easily.
Basically, just sit back and enjoy the scene. It really is a sight to be seen, especially when it is all lit up at night.
I love Las Vegas and can't wait to go back. Yes, I gambled, and yes, I lost it. But, it did not cost me any more than a night out. For example, I enjoy horse racing and can make $20 last 4 hours at sports book through 2 dollar bets... or I could use the $20 on a mediocre two hour movie. I understand why people don't bet, but it is just good to know that you can bet within your budget and do it for the entertainment value... and those free drinks.

www.cheapovegas.com has great reviews of all the hotels and ideas on things to do.
Personally, I always enjoy watching the Bellagio fountains, shopping, and visiting the dolphins at the Mirage.

October is a great time to come, weather is not scorching hot, but can still be warm during the day. Take advantage of the weather to visit places like Red Rock, Valley of Fire, Hoover Dam (places that can be miserable in the summer). Plenty to do without gaming, shows, shows and more shows, shopping, shopping, and more shopping, eating, eating, and more eating. Sit by the pools, go downtown and watch the Fremont Street Experience, go to the Bellagio and see the fountains, then go inside to the conservatory, Ethel M's chocolate factory and cactus garden, visit the Clark County Heritage Museum, go up top the Stratosphere for awesome views and if daring ride the rides.
Question for friend, why In & Out, just don't see the appeal to this place.

Yeah the drinks are free, but people that sit at the cheap slots aren't exactly favorites of the cocktail waitress, so don't expect a lot of service in those areas.
Best advice here - search through some of the LV threads and go to www.cheapovegas.com . The search of previous threads will give you way more ideas than this thread alone.
