I admit it! I AM A TACKY TOURIST!!!
I get so sick of hearing the word touristy when people talk people away from a certain vacation destination. Damn aint everybody that visits Fodors a tourist? If I am away from my home and went on vacation I do "touristy" things! It's amazing how many compelling, historical sites get the lable "tacky tourist trap". (Alcatraz, Tombstone, Cherokee, Gettysburg, Statue of Liberty, etc.) You people only interested in some wine and cheese or ambience or what?!

I fly to Miami.I take a cab to the Hotel in SoBe.I stay in the hotel for 5 days.I eat in restaurants for 5 days.I go to clubs for 5 days.Am I a tourist?Funny how some posters feel that "when I am in South Beach I don't do the touristy things that the tourists do".They of course are not tourist themselves. What was I thinking!!!!And oh yes I most definitely be a touris--I referred to my destination as "SoBe", a dead giveaway.......

I don't see the issue so much as tourist versus traveler. I think the issue is tourists who go to see something diffrent versus tourists who travel and expect it to be just like home. You know the type, they go to Europe and complain about the lack of english speakers and seek out McDonald's.
