Hyatt Regency Tamaya as base camp
Hello,
We will be visiting New Mexico for a week in August. We have 2 sons ages 9 & 7....
I was considering booking the Hyatt Tamaya for the entire week but I wonder if some of the northern sites Taos & Bandelier would be too much driving? Should I book a few nights in Santa Fe? We are interested in mainly outdoor activities....hiking, horseback riding, hot air baloon, exploring native american sites, etc.
Thanks!

You can certainly stay at the Tamaya and go to Santa Fe and Badelier from there [it is a really nice hotel!]
However, if you want to go to Taos, I strongly recommend you stay overnight in Taos. It is almost a 3 hour drive from ABQ [2 hours from Santa Fe].
Hope this helps...

Your family will have a terrific time at Tamaya. We just returned from Tamaya. I would consider a night or two in Taos as opposed to Santa Fe with the children. Visit Taos Pueblo, visit Bandelier. I have stayed at Eldorado in Santa Fe, but Santa Fe seems a more adult city (finer dining, galleries, etc.).

I have three boys, two of which are the same age. We did a similar trip, staying at Tamaya. It's a lovely restful resort - we stayed there three nights, and then also stayed in Albuquerque and Taos. There is a lot of driving in New Mexico, and frankly Tamaya isn't that close to many of the places we wanted to visit. My family really enjoyed Bandelier, and also Acoma (one hour W of Albuquerque), and the Natural History Museum in Albuquerque. Have a great trip!!
