Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress in Orlando - any need to rent a car?

Hi, is anyone familar with this hotel and its proximity to restaurants and supermarkets? My husband, 2 children, and I will be in Orlando this fall, and are staying at this hotel. As both of our children are in car seats, we are trying to avoid having to rent a car if possible (I know there is a shuttle to/from the airport & hotel, as well as to/from the Disney parks and hotel). However, we will need to get to a supermarket at some point to get some baby food, diapers, and things of that sort.

Any suggestions? Should we just take a cab anytime we need to go out to eat or to the store? Do cabs allow children to sit on your laps?

If there are stores and restaurants within walking distance of this hotel, then that would be perfect.

Any help is appreciated!!

This is a large resort on very extensive grounds. You really need a car to get around - as it is major hike - esp with kidsstroller - and across a major highway - to get to stores/restaurants etc.

This is a great property- I love it - but it's not esp kid friendly - more for adults than little ones. (They have multiple golf courses, moderate to upscale rstaurants, groups of on-site villas and lots of more adult activities.)

Sorry - don;t mean to be discouraging - but I would never stay there without a car. (And this is a piano bar in the lobby lounge type place - not character breakfasts.)

A trip to the grocery store would really require a car; there's not a grocery store within easy walking distance.

Not cheap, but from the hotel's website: http://www.hyatt.com/hyatt/gateway/i...ervices_050208

You need a rental car if you are going to stay at the Hyatt with small children. You will not want to wait for the hotel shuttle to go to and from the parks. If you take a cab every time you want to go out to eat or to the supermarket (and you end up taking a cab back from the parks), you will come close to the price of a rental car. To save money and avoid renting a car, consider staying at one of the budget level hotels, such as All Stars, on Disney property. Look at Mears Transportation- I recall Mears will do a grocery store stop on your way from the airport to a Disney property.

Thanks for the responses. We are actually staying there as my husband has a conference at this hotel (and myself and the children are tagging along), we got an excellent rate, so we're not thinking of switching hotels. We will definitely consider renting a car now though. Thanks again!

Yes, shoukld have mentioned that the hotel has a smallish conference center attached (we actually did one meeting there) and the facilities and restaurants are really primarily for conferencce goers and other adults. I believe they do have a kids pool as well as the adult poll complex - but there are very few kids there versus most places in orlando.

Definitely plan on renting a car to get around, to get to stores and more family friendly restaurants and activiites the kids mightwant to do.

Note that they have a large lake with paddleboats - but you are advised never to swim in it - or even trail hands in the water - since no one know if/how many gators may be in it.

Yeh this would not be child friendly place. I would stay at a Disney property personally I think the hotel should be able to provide you with these services.
