The Hyatt Maui is very nice. What is worrying you? The grounds are very nice as is the pool. In oct there are lots fewer epople there. They now have oceanside massage and we have always enjoyed the oceanside hammocks to watch the sunset and enjoy the evenings.

We've gotten an upgrade each time except 1 so our rooms have had good views of the ocean and swan court. It's a great hotel.

There is no way that the Maui Hyatt is terrible. I am careful to notice what the dates of the stay was when people report that the Hyatt is terrible. If it's high season I always view with a grain of salt because alot of the stay at that time is affected by fellow guests who may have negatively affected the person's stay. I've been to the Hyatt 4 times and it's always been the off season. My visits were terrific. Last time we went we stayed at the Marriott, next door, because we got a great deal. When we visited the Hyatt the kids remarked that we should have stayed there again even if it cost more.
You will have a fantastic Honeymoon at each of the Hyatts. You may want to even up the days just so you get enough time on Kauai but don't do it to get away from the Maui Hyatt.

I love the Hyatt on Maui. It's the only place I will stay when I go there. I will say that as with any hotel the rooms vary in location, view etc. and the room on my last trip was not the greatest. Can't remember the name of the tower but it faces the front of the hotel where you drive up to check in. It worked. I would suggest you not be in that particular tower if on your honeymoon. You can get a nicer location. They charge the spa fees and parking etc. which tends to tick me off but all the hotels are doing that kind of stuff now. It's hard to boycott them when you want to travel. So, stay at the Hyatt on Maui and in the end if you don't like it, I will be really surprised.

We stayed there this past summer (Maui Hyatt) and loved it. If you search under my screen name, you should be able to find my trip report. There is nothing to be nervous about...it is a great hotel. We are going to Kauai this summer and spending 3 nights at the Hyatt there.

Hi. I just posted my trip report. Just returned from both the hyatts. Yes the hyatt Maui i a beautiful and luxurious resort but it DOES NOT COMPARE IN ANY WAY TO THE HYATT IN KAUAI. If you are insisting on staying at the hyatt maui then stay there BEFORE THE HYATT KAUAI otherwise you will be very very disappointed. I am sure what the previous reader said is true the time of year you go is important. We just returned on Saturday night(48 hours ago so I am still on hawaii time). I am sure you will enjoy both but Kauai is truely a tropical paradise. Maui is very touristy but some people like that I prefer the peace and quiet of kauai. You should at least stay in Kauai as long as in maui if not longer. If you want to email please do so at [email protected]. Thanks

Kauai is our favorite island and Kauai
Hyatt is wonderful. we stayed there
with kids for 10 nights and we all loved it. We have not stayed at Maui
Hyatt, but went to visit friends who
were staying there. Hyatt Maui was beautiful. Our friends said their room
was much smaller than ours at Embassy
Suites (I think Embassy Suites have larger rooms). You should stay longer
in Kauai, we've been to all the islands
and Kauai is truly our favorite.

Just to muddy the waters: Spend five nights on each if you want but don't spend LONGER on Kauai than Maui. Maui is larger with more spread out "must see" sights. Don't get me wrong, Kauai is beautiful, but I'm of the "maui no ka oi" school.

Regarding resorts, keep in mind that the Kauai Hyatt is one of only two "ultra-luxurious" resorts on Kauai. That's going to schew things quite a bit. On Maui there are many resorts that fit into the very nice to luxurious to ultra-luxurious category. Just because people get orgasmic over the Kauai Hyatt DOES NOT mean the Maui Hyatt is a dump. It's not! Don't let comments here make you second guess your choices. I've made that mistake. Keeping up with the Joneses is a lost cause and there are as many opinions as rear ends in this world!

There, off my soapbox: Iao Valley, Haleakala, South Maui beaches, road to Hana, drive up the West Maui coast... Great restaurants, entertainment. Don't short change Maui.

We went to the Maui Hyatt in Sept 2001 just after 9/11. We had planned the trip for about a year and were too stubborn to cancel it. Staying at the Hyatt in Maui was amazing. It wasn't very crowded then which is not surprising given the time frame. I think we would have enjoyed it even if there were more people at the hotel. The pools are great. They have a very nice pool grotto area with a waterfall. The service was very good. Don't worry about your choice. If it hasn't changed much in the past 3 years, I'm sure you'll love it.

We stayed in a condo on Maui and the Sheraton on Kauai. I really liked the Sheraton hotel but that is off topic.

I would go to Maui first then Kauai. I would also do 3 days at Maui and 7 on Kauai. Kauai is so much nicer than Maui and what you picture Hawaii will be like...

It is so interesting to read the different view points. I spent 6 days in each and definitely 3 days in maui is not enough. 6 was even too little but the problem we had and only people who have been to both can understand this is that you cannot compare the maui hyatt and the kauai hyatt. They are in different leagues. Picture yourself spending 6 days in Kauai hyatt with pools to yourselves no lines and everyone with a smile and granting your everywish and then you leave for the maui hyatt and the lines are long the staff is not anywhere near as friendly and you not only cannot find a secluded space by the pool but you are packed in like sardines. This is the drastic change that we just experienced. Waited online for at least one half hour each morning just to be seated for the breakfast buffet and then were told we could not take my wifes left overs with us(we explained she had a stomach condition and was not able to eat much at a time but they didn't give a damn whereas an in the kauai hyatt they totally understood.) don't get me wrong the maui hyatt is a beautiful hotel but we were not happy there and when we drove to south maui it seemed to impress us much more. West maui is much to crowded for us. When the cruise ships dock at Lahaina front street is just so crowded. We were looking for a vacation just so relaxing and to get away from the crowds and that is just what the kauai hyatt did for us. maybe if we had done maui first it wouldn't have been so bad but everyone has there own opinion. Just to let everyone know I am a person that is very easy to please and never complain about anything. But you know what despite the problems I had in maui This vacation was still the vacation of a life time. Enjoy

Let's not mischaracterize the maui Hyatt in OCTOBER as crowded with lines and such. It will be very relaxed with low occupancy. We were in Maui in Oct and stayed at the Marriott next door. It was much more crowded there because of the timeshare status of the Marriott. The Hyatt was perfect with lots of space at the pool and no lines anywhere. We've stayed at the Hyatt in a previous October and there were no crowds or lines.

Maui Hyatt is not the destination of choice if you're in search of the best in the Ka'anapali area. Hyatt is nice, and huge, but not on the best strip of beach. But stay there and I'm sure it'll be okay. If I were you, I'd do some more research on this issue, it has been discussed ad nauseum, and someone always promotes Hyatt as though they have stock.

I've been to the Maui Hyatt twice in the past 7 or so years with my husband. We love it. Both of these times were in early Oct (honeymoon & 5 yr anniv) .. I've also stayed in the Ritz Carlton (I believe it was) north of the Hyatt w/my folks which is, let's say, "ritzy" .. As two 30 going on 40 somethings, we feel very comfortable at the Hyatt w/out feeling out of place - true, the beach in front of the Hyatt is not the best(and I'm sure it's corroded more since we've been) but you can easily walk down the sidewalk that runs along the beach & visit other, nicer beaches. Don't miss snorkeling over by Black Rock! I've also been to all of the islands, but it's Maui that I continue to return to. The southern part of the island is very nice - we always take a day to drive out to "Big Beach/Little Beach" - but we enjoy staying in Kaanapali & going into Lahaina for dinner for a night or two. Just my opinion.

Frankly, if one wishes to snorkle at Black Rock, then obviously one stays at the Sheraton, not at Hyatt, Marriott, etc. which require a 20-minute walk. And yes, the beach is narrow at Hyatt. Personally, all the hotels along that strip are okay, and north at Kapalua, Ritz is THE place to stay. IMHO.
