HUMPHREY'S HALF MOON/SAN DIEGO/NEED INFO

We're off to Humphrey's Half Moon Inn this weekend...one of the fodorites suggested it, we got a great rate, so thought we'd try it.

Any suggestions which room to request at Humphrey's? I noticed they have concerts, but we didn't get tickets. We're only staying one night, so suggestions for dining in that area Sat. night would be greatly appreciated! Medium priced, casual preferred.

Thanks!

I have stayed at the normal guest room and enjoyed it. Do they have a concert the night you are there? if they do, it will be very loud. Jefferson Starship was there one night I was there. Hotel was shaking.

For seafood, I would recommend Brigatines on Shelter Island or for beer, Fiddlers is very good. Miguels is also right there for Mexican. Or you could venture further to Harbor Island for Island Prime

For medium priced causal dining i would really recommend pizza nova. Not right on shelter island but it's very close to Humphries and the food is constantly good. It started as pizza, pasta and salads but also has entrees now.

thanks to both of you for the great suggestions...I had to laugh when I read "the hotel was shaking."

Recently we stayed at the Bahia..it was a last minute trip so we booked a room there. We arrived and the clerk told us she was going to upgrade our room to a jr. suite. We thanked her profusely, went to our room and the light began blinking on the phone as we were unpacking. There was a message explaining that we were directly underneath the dance floor of a wedding reception and to expect alot of noise, however, it would end no later than 10:30 or 11:00 p.m. (I don't remember the exact time).

We got a good chuckle out of our "upgrade." It really didn't bother us because we were going to be out late that night anyway, but word of caution to anyone who accepts a free upgrade..check it out first!

Just re-read my post. There was a concert the night next and the sound was much more under control. It seems as though Jefferson Starship played much too loud that night, to the point many people left very early.

yeah I was wondering how good the concerts are at Humphrey's By the Bay....we're going to check it out and maybe buy tickets for a concert in the future.

Joey...That bakery sounds wonderful...thanks...we'll put it on the list to try this weekend!

We figure by the time our son graduates from SDSU we will have stayed in almost one hotel in every area of SD...from the Town and Country (bleech) to Hotel Del (nice!). And we will have dined in every restaurant from Mr. A's ($$) to the Hash House A - G0-GO (on a diet after that one).

San Diego is such a great town with so much to offer!

Old Venice in Point Loma is very nice. Island Prime is pricier but gorgeous with unbeatable views. You could try one of the places in Little Italy on India St.

The concerts can be really nice, it's a small venue, it just depends on the artist. If your room is close you do not have to buy a ticket or you could sit at the pool and listen. Many locals sit on the grass out in front and listen for free and the boaters also get a free concert in their dingy's.
Enjoy your weekend, the weather has been better than perfect this week so hopefully it will be a nice weekend too.
