How was your weekend? Monday, September 11

I had a quiet weekend devoted to packing Tomorrow off to brave Chicago's rain. Air delays they said

My friend talked me into seeing the Spreckels mansion, the one owned now by D. Steele. He said she has so many cars, she parks them in the street and her neighbors are all angry.

You can't see the mansion behind the trees on Washington, only on the cross street, is it Octavia? And she has 5 cars displayed by the grand entrance - outside fabric curtains! Must get moldy and replaced often in this foggy weather.

I wonder how many cars she has in a garage. The way we figured it out - she must have a different car color to match every pair of shoes.

Hello Sister Faina! I wondered when your Chicago trip was. You're coming back by train, right? How fun! Have a great time at the GTG. I'll be looking forward to your lovely, as usual, report plus pics, right??

We went to the Texas v. Ohio State football game on Saturday night. Too bad we lost, but it sure was fun being there. Sooo many tailgaters, good BBQ, loved the bands!

Had dinner last night with kiddos. DIL's friend from Russia (she's been here all summer) bid us farewell as she heads back to her homeland today. sigh...she so wants to stay here.

Happy travels, y'all!

my weekend was awesome. Had a great birthday dinner with my fiance, brother and his girlfriend (who cooked) and my mom (dad had to work). Then had a beautiful bridal shower on Sat. and a super fun bachelorette party on Sat. night. I couldn't have asked for more.

Have a great trip Faina!

Had a quiet weekend with DH. It turned very cool and rainy on Saturday. Perfect excuse to clean, do laundry and dishes and then sit in front of the TV (modern day fireplace) and watch a movie.

Saturday was the Houston GTG. It was terrific to meet other posters! BillT did a terrific job in getting it organized.

Sunday was the most calm day I've had in months. I actually fell asleep sitting in my easy chair. I haven't been that relaxed in a long time!

Faina, fear not, it's supposed to stop raining after tomorrow so it shouldn't be a total washout-good thing you're not here today though! Spent the weekend at the Paw Paw Wine and Harvest Festival where the highlight was our 7 mo old being totally fascinated by the horses pulling the hayride. She loves our dog and apparently these were just bigger, better dogs to her! Yesterday definately was a premonition of what's to come - Cool and rainy-yuck! Can't wait for Thursday's gtg though!

I spent the weekend with my Father, but did get to view and participate somewhat in my Grandson Roman's football game. We all can howl like wolves now. It was in Frankfurt IL at their 2 year old facility. I thought I was at Soldier Field. LOL! BOY is it organized, there are even announcers and weigh-in people besides all the food and refs. And the cheer leaders are little professionals with choreographed music programs. It was a great weather day as well.

Faina, I am so LOOKING forward to Thursday and it is supposed to be a good weather day that day. Today I was caught in a torrential rainfall coming to work and had to ONCE AGAIN drive through 1/2 wheel deep water. I think it is supposed to dry up a bit by the time you get here. It is grey and raining today, as if the sun as never appeared.

Well, rain or not, I can't wait to meet. Swalter, I miss MI SO MUCH. I'll be there over last week of Sept. and Columbus Day extended weekend.

I had a quiet and relaxing weekend Faina. Had a friend over for awhile Saturday early evening for a drink and snacks and enjoyed our lovely weather out on the deck. The trees have grown so tall, guess to all the rain we had this spring, one feels like they are in the mountains.

Wandered through some stores to see if I could find some autumn clothes but didn't have any luck. Clothes shopping here is miserable!

Faina, have a safe and comfortable flight to Chicago! Have fun there and enjoy the two GTG's. And may Amtrak be fun for you, and on time!! Big hugs dear friend.

We had a good weekend Went to the high school football game Friday night...big social event for our small town. Saturday took DD shopping for a homecoming dress and we were successful. Then to DS football game. He had an awesome game, and they won 19-0! It was our anniversary, but after all that we didn't feel like heading back out, so we just went to a local place and took dinner back home. Yesterday the guys went fishing and I took the girls to tennis. Typical family life, huh?

JJ5--Sounds like our youth football games here! SO much fun!!!

Faina--My dad flew out to Chicago today. He and my uncle are there for family tree stuff...meeting extended family they have never met before, etc.

No, this was my older kitty who was between 14 and 18 years old (we adopted her as an adult kitty).

My younger is thriving and doing well. We are going tonight to adopt a teenage as the young one is only three.

So many homeless animals we figured there was no reason to wait. There is enough love in our grieving hearts.

Oh, I'm sorry too. When it happens, it's still hard. My Sydney (cockatiel) is like a person and he is now almost 26. When he goes, it is going to be painful.

It's gotten to the point that when he is quiet, we tend to speak up, "Hey Sydney are you ok?" My biggest dread is that he will be gone one morning when Ken is away on one of his ski or fishing trips. I just read about someone who has had one that is 32 (documented), so maybe their "facts" on a 20 year life span are all wet.

I was just looking at his picture from 1983 and he looks identical, not a day older or less handsome. I might start calling him the Paul Newman bird. LOL!

Birds can be like cats and dogs- extremely domesticated to your everyday life. Sydney literally has a place to eat dinner at the table. How we miss them!

So sorry GoTravel. It's hard to lose a friend!

My best friend and her mom stayed with us Friday evening and left Saturday morning. It was so nice to see her and her mom. She's the best kind of friend, the type that you're always comfortable around despite the fact we haven't seen each other much the last couple of years.

We spent Saturday and part of Sunday at a church retreat for my husband's church. Our daugther came down with some kind of virus, so she was tired and cranky (and so was I).

Husband and I spent yesterday and most of the night cuddling a poor, hot toddler and cleaning puke up off the floor.

Ugh. I'm tired; my husband's tired; our daughter's sick and tired.

So sorry for your loss, GoT. The loss of a pet is very painful. They are so sweet & innocent.

JJ5, we have a pet cockatiel who is almost 11. It's amazing, we also say that he has not changed a bit, including his HIGH energy, singing, talking up a storm & laughing out loud! Our vet says he is "middle-aged", that the normal life span is around 12-15 years. Good to hear about your 20-something!
