How to grab a great spot to view the T-Day parade?

Hi:

I have an opportunity to see the parade "in person" this year.

I know that there will be quite a few people lining the streets to see the parade. My question to you: are there any "tips" that you can share that will enable me to grab a great spot? I'm rather petite (at 5'0 or less) so I need to be either close to the street or "something. . . . " Not sure what the "something" would be, though.

Thanks,
TR

Get a spot on the curb by 5:30 or 6:00 a.m.

sf7307 is right, to get the best viewing spots get there "dark and early" to stake out your place.

Go here for everything you need to know:

It depends on how far downtown you want to be. The further uptown - the later you can get there - but not by much. Agree if you're petite and need to be in the front row - 6 am is not too early.

Also, do realize that the "performances" that you see on TV - Rockettes and numbers from B'way shows happen only in front of Macy's - for the TV cameras and those in the VIP Grandstand. No one else gets to see them live.

In order to get a good spot, you're best chance is probably along the prade route somewhere between Columbus Circle and 34th Street. Macy's employees and guests get to use the grandstands on Central Park West above 59th Street, but I think most anyone can be on the west side of the street (though you probably will not be allowed around 15 Central Park West because the super rich folks don't allow the masses to get in their way of anything.) Still, it's very busy along Central Park West.

But getting there very early is the key to being close to the street.

Hi all!

Thank you so much for the helpful advice. Early bird gets the best spot!

I'll write about it later to let you know the outcome.

Again, thanks.

We've always gone uptown near the start of the parade to watch. Reason being is the parade is finished hours before the masses see it and you beat everyone to the restaurants.

Don't miss seeing the balloons being filled up the night before by the Museum of Natural History.
