How to get from the Frick Collection to Brooklyn Academy of Music
I'll be in NYC this Saturday and will need to go from the Frick Collection (1 East 70th Street) to the Brooklyn Academy of Music. What's the best way? I don't usually use the subway--having gotten lost a few times--but am willing to give it a try. Or how much would a cab cost?

So you want the BAM Harvey Theater on Fulton St?
Board the Downtown 6 train at Lexington and 68th. Transfer at 59th St to the Downtown & Brooklyn 4 or 5 train. Exit at Nevins St. Check the BAM website for a map.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This Saturday and Sunday (4/30 & 5/1) -
5 train service will terminate at Brooklyn Bridge. 4 train service will terminate at Bowling Green and will not go into Brooklyn.
Walk to Lexington Av & 68th St. Take a Downtown 6 train to 59th St. Transfer downstairs (use stairs near and of platform) to a N, Q or R train. Take a downtown/Brooklyn-bound train to Atlantic Av-Barclay's Center. Follow the signs to the 2, 3, 4, 5 trains. Use the stairs to the uptown 2 and 3 trains and exit thru the turnstiles. Then go upstairs and exit to Flatbush Avenue. BAM is a couple of blocks from the station.
Note to Fra_Diavolo - if the 5 train was running normally it would only go as far as Bowling Green. Weekend 5 trains don't go to Brooklyn. Also under normal operating circumstances I would recommend transferring from the 6 to the 4 (or 5) at 42nd St Grand Central as it would be an across the platform transfer. The transfer at 59th St involves going down a lot of stairs.

------CORRECTION-----
Walk to Lexington Av & 68th St. Take a Downtown 6 train to 59th St. Transfer downstairs (use stairs near end of platform) to a R train. Take a downtown/Brooklyn-bound R train to DeKalb Avenue. At DeKalb Av, follow the signs to exit to Flatbush Av/Fulton St.
Note - when you take the R, when it gets to 57th St (2 stops from where you got on), if there is a Q train on the express track - switch over. The Q is an express and should cut a few minutes off the trip. Get off the Q at DeKalb Av.
You can get the exact address of the BAM Theater at Fulton St from the BAM site.

Even though it's a bit of a hassle on the weekend, you should take the subway. A taxi will cost you in excess of $30 (possibly as much as $40 ... it's a long way and there will likely be a lot of traffic). That's the fare BEFORE the tip, so add an additional 20% and decide if it's worth that or $2.75.

For future reference: Questions such as this can be answered by going to maps.google.com. Enter the starting point, enter the destination, and click the symbol that looks like the front of the train.
