We'd had a flight from Phila that connected to an overseas flight on Delta. The connector from PHila to JFK has been cancelled. Is there some other way I can get from Phila airport to JFK? Train? How long would that take? We actually don't live in Phila-- it's just our nearest airport. (It's going to take a couple of hours to get to Phila and then whatever else to get to NY.) Aargh-- I'm thinking of just cancelling the whole vacation. At our ripe age, travel hassle is becoming ever more burdensome. Thanks for help.

I would bypass PHL airport altogether and do a 1-way rental car home to JFK.
Where do you live? Someone may have a suggestion that would be a better connection from your hometown.
From Philadelphia, you can take an Amtrak train to Penn Station. There are cheaper train options, but these would involve transferring between two commuter trains. Since you will have luggage, I'd opt for Amtrak.
There are also bus options that include Greyhound or cheaper Megabus-type buslines.
Since you will have luggage for an overseas flight, I suggest that once you reach Manhattan, you grab a taxi to JFK--cost $45 plus toll and tip.
Well, then, if you don't live near PHL, where DO you live relative to PHL and JFK? That would be helpful to know.
For example, if you live north of PHL in New Jersey or eastern PA, there are train and bus options. I've taken the Transbridge Bus from Bucks County up to Newark airport before; most of their buses continue on to JFK. I've also taken a New Jersey transit train from Princeton Junction into Manhattan and taken a Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) train on to JFK. (That worked out to be easy for me, but I'm good with trains.)
Guess I'm missing something. Was this on one ticket? All on DL or with one of their partners from PHL? Who cancelled the flight? Not sure I understand why you weren't booked on another flight from PHL to JFK

for a hassle-free trip from PHL to your home, this may be your best bet, particularly if you are three or fewer travelers.
Or you can rent a car from PHL to JFK, which cost me about $120, including drop-off fee, taxes, gas, and tolls.
Train is do-able but way more trouble than either of the above two options.
Thanks for the thoughtful replies.
I live far out on the eastern shore of MD by the way.
Delta can get me to Istanbul, but way less conveniently than original flight (new one thru Paris instead of NY). (There's no other flight that goes from Phila that gets me to NY on time to make the transatlantic flight.)
All the hauling around on trains, buses, taxis, cars, etc-- just not worth it. Will no doubt cancel trip if better flight connections don't materialize in upcoming months. At 80+ travel needs to have fewer hassles than this seems to be being. Home is nice too.
I do appreciate the feedback-- thank you!
Getting from where you are to JFK - or Philly to JFK will be a major hassle.
I would pcik the flight changing n Paris instead - it will be cheaper and quicker in the long-run. Also - have you looked at flight out of DC or Newark instead?
I recently flew to IST on Turkish Air (great airline, BTW). They fly non-stop to IST from JFK and O'Hare. Can you arrange a flight to either from BWI?
