How much did you spend in NYC?
Hi again people!
So my trip to NYC is just around the corner, and I've got just a few more questions;
It is at this moment a mystery to me if my creditcard will arrive in time for me to take it with me on this trip, so I don't want to take any chances. I've got a debet card, but its use is far more limited than in Europe, so I want to take some cash with me aswell.
Now, I was wondering, how much do you think you'd spend in NYC in a week, being 'touristy'? (Don't think about broadway tickets, museum tickets, etc, we've got most of it covered already) I was thinking to take with us $1000 each (Going with my brother) but it might not be enough. and advice (usually) doesn't hurt.
Btw, if you know of any 'unexpected' exhibitions or good spots to dine on a semi-student budget, don't hesitate to post
Thank you all.

Is your hotel to be paid out of the $1000 budget? If so, I would think its going to be tight, but if not, I think its plenty. For an inexpensive brunch in Soho, try Cafe Habana. You can eat delicious and very cheap meals in Chinatown, too.

I would just be judicious about how you spend money on breakfast and lunch. Figure out how much that works out to per day ($142).
Buy a weekly metrocard for $24. Set aside some money to take cabs when needed. Cabs can be a good option late night if you are trying to get home after bars, etc.
Are you planning to go out at night? Drinks are expensive in Manhattan. If you go to bars, plan on ~$5 per beer/$7 per mixed drink. At clubs, plan on $8 beer/$14 mixed drinks.
Not sure what kind of souvenirs you plan to buy.

I think you pose a hard question. how much would one spend in any big city? It has to do with whether you go to a nice restaurant in a cab and have drinks, or whether you take the tube and eat at a more basic restaurant and don't drink. and also how many meals per day you eat at restaurants, adn how often you plan to use a cab to get around during the day..
