How long to stay in Maui & Kauai

I have 11 nights to split up between the two islands. As it stands now we are at the Hyatt Kauai for 6 nights, if you stay the 6th night its free and you get buffet breakfest each day. IN maui we were going to stay 5 nights at the sheraton. Is 6 nights to long in kauai?

It really depends on your interests. If you love beautiful beaches and hiking and wondering around the island - believe me it would not be too long - I could spend 2 weeks in Kaui easily. However, if you need lots of different activities and lots of night life, Maui has more of those.

I'm leaving for Hawaii next week for 11 nites as well, and I'm doing the same exact split as you: 5 Maui, 6 Kauai. I've just heard such terrific things about Kauai that I chose to stay there the extra nite. One thing you'll probably hear from people who favor Maui is that the nightlife is a lot better there than in Kauai. I live in N.Y.C. and I get plenty of nightlife the rest of the year....I'm going to Hawaii to escape all that for a couple of weeks and I think Kauai may provide more of the laid-back atmosphere and natural beauty that I'm looking for. To each their own I guess.

We stayed 7 nights in Kauai and had no trouble enjoying all the various beaches and outdoor activities (river kayaking etc.). Yes, it is pretty quiet in the evenings, well especially since it gets dark so quickly there compared to the northern areas of the US in the summer.

I don't think you will have trouble, you may wish you had more time in Maui, but there is always another trip to the other islands. We want to go back and explore Maui and the Big Island.

Shamus66,
Staying at the 4 Seasons in Maui and the Princeville in Kauai. Went back and forth about whether to stay there or at the Hyatt, but heard from several friends who've stayed at the Princeville and they loved the hotel and the area so much that they said that we HAD to stay there. Keeping my fingers crossed with the weather though.

When are you going?
