Good question...I'll be watching for the answer as I'm flying from LAX (from CLT) to Kona in March.

Please post a trip report when you return if you want to, or just email me all the fun stuff and the do's and don'ts!

It's gotten pretty bad. Midway through my flight the stew's came around with a coffee can, collecting money for enough gas to get us to our destination city.

It was worse than that on my flight. The stew was collecting leftovers so the crew could eat.

Actually, it has been awesome. I swore off flying United several years ago & flew to Chicago 2 weeks ago & San Francisco this past weekend. All my flights were on time & service was extremely friendly. Everyone was commenting on how nice it was. They are trying extremely hard!

I flew UAL accidentally on Christmas day (which was after the bankruptcy filing)....our Northwest flight was cancelled & we got re-routed on UAL. I had been leary of them because of the bankruptcy, but we had the nicest, most helpful flight crew (they even helped us get a better re-route to our final destination than Northwest had been able to), and there was extra leg room in the economy plus seats we got assigned. I had originally thought I would try to avoid them because of the bankruptcy, but because of this experience, I'd be willing to use them. I think their people are trying to make it work.

Flew United third week in December 2002. From East Coast to almost the west coast with layover in Chicago. All four segments were 15 to 30 minutes early and the flight home was the Sunday before Christmas even! Everybody was extremely pleasant.

I flew United in December after the filing and didn't notice any difference in service. Things seemed to be business as usual.

I flew United during Christmas , Austin to Reno. They were terrific! I thought they were very organized and exceptionally professional. We offered to give up our seats but, it turned out that they weren't over booked as they thought they would be. They gave us $25.00 each gift certificates just for offering. I thought that was great. I will fly with them again for sure.

PB,

They rewarded you for trying to get free tickets? That is pretty neat, ya slacker.

We flew from Denver to LAX last week--service was great and our flight left on time and got there early. The only difference that I could see was the absence of meals--just peanuts and drinks (we flew during lunchtime). They did, however, give you as many packets of peanuts as you wanted

We flew UAL to Hawaii via London to LA, to Kauai (hopped over for two days to Kona). Then when we returned Maui to San Fran, hopped to Seattle for an overnighter(two neices) then returned via Chicago back to London.

Service was superb. Flights were great, food was great, entertainment was good.

But the planes. By now they should have better interiors. So, we went with business with Business on the international legs and it is worth the upgrade.

I was especially impressed with the hospitality of the on board attendants / service crews. (Whom by the way had no idea we owned an agency.)

I think UAL is a good airline. Wish they flew out of Switzerland!

I'm business from Chicago to LA, then First from LA to Kona. I agree that their interiors sag behind the rest of the industry even in first. Cloth vs. leather?...I sound elitist don't I.
